Happy First OFFICIAL Anniversary to Channing Tatum Unwrapped!!!

August 16, 2008

Happy First

First of all, I want to thank Fabulous Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Fan Naz from London for the awesome graphic at the top of this post!!!

Channing Tatum Asking CTU to Be His Official SiteAlthough I started this site on January 1, 2007, one year ago Channing Tatum sent me one of the most amazing emails I have ever gotten asking me if CTU could be his official site. The email included the adorable new photo on the right as proof that he was actually the real deal. Fans can CLICK HERE to get all of the juicy details on the seemly fairytale story that really did happen to this unsuspecting blogger.

In that article, I promised fans that the best was yet to come; not knowing how accurate that statement would end up being…

Countless incredible things have happened here at CTU during our first official year. My list of favorites would have to include (but is not limited to) the following:

It truly has been an incredible year, and I’m just getting started as far as I’m concerned!!! I can say with all certainty that the coming year will be full of more surprises and cool opportunities for Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s Fabulous fans all over the world to learn more about them and their projects.

To get the ball rolling, I want to announce the winner of the 2008 Teen Choice Awards Goody Bag and Channing Tatum Autographed VIP Pass. The lucky winner is soon-to-be birthday girl…

Jenna W.
from Jacksonville, Florida

Jenna will be 16 on August 19th, so happy early birthday to you!!! Thanks to all of the fans who entered the contest and don’t worry if you did not win this time. We will continue to have lots more contests on CTU each month.

Happy Birthday from Channing Tatum Unwrapped!!!

NEW CHANNING TATUM UNWRAPPED BIRTHDAY PROGRAM

Since it’s CTU official birthday, I also think this is the perfect time to announce the new Channing Tatum Unwrapped Birthday Program for fans around the world. The previous birthday shout outs on CTU were graciously created by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Naz from London for the friends she has made on this site. Each time I send one out, fans ask me to announce their birthdays too, but with the large amount of readers and birthdays we have, it’s difficult to do that. I have now created a new birthday program that can include all fans around the world who would like to get a birthday shout out too. If you would like to get a birthday shout out from CTU or you would like CTU to give a birthday shout out to a friend of yours, please send an email to fanbirthdays@channingtatumunwrapped.com with “BIRTHDAY” in the Subject and the birthday person’s name, mailing address, and birth date in the body of the email. Each month, I will make a post recognizing all of the fan birthdays for that month, and one lucky fan on the list will win an autographed picture of Channing Tatum. The new program is starting as of today, so anyone with an August birthday (or a birthday in the future) can start sending in your submissions.

Finally, I just want to give a HUGE thanks to all of the loyal readers for continuing to support Chan, Jenna, and CTU. I also have to thank Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, and their wonderful families for their friendship, for supporting CTU and me, and for letting me live out a dream through this site every day.

It’s been an amazing journey already, and I can’t even predict where the next year will take us. I can confidently promise again that the best is yet to come. Stay tuned to CTU, because I guarantee you don’t want to miss a thing!!!

CTU EXCLUSIVE: Learn About Channing Tatum Through the Eyes of His Mom Kay

August 11, 2008

Channing Tatum Unwrapped Webmaster Q with Channing Tatum's Mom KayIf you’ve been reading CTU for a while, then you know it was a little over a year ago when I received a surprising and extremely sweet email from Channing Tatum’s mom Kay thanking me for the site and letting me know that the family read it to keep up with Chan’s career. It was so incredible, flattering, and unbelievable, and Kay even started sending in Pictures of the Week, baby photos, and exclusive info on Chan’s upcoming projects both before and after Chan made CTU his official site.

Through all of our emails over the past year, I’m glad to say that Kay and I formed a friendship, so one of the things I was most looking forward to on my recent trip to LA was to finally meet Chan’s family in person. As I write this post, it’s hard for me to stop smiling, because my day with Kay and my dinner with Chan and Jenna the next day were hands down my favorite parts of the trip. Teen Choice was awesome, but for me, what really made the trip was to be able to spend quality time with both old and new friends.

I’ll cover my dinner with Chan and Jenna tomorrow, but in today’s post, you all get to hear about my awesome day with Mama Kay…

On Sunday, I was getting ready for the Teen Choice Awards and realized that I had missed a call on my phone. Turns out, the message was from Kay and it was great to hear her adorable southern accent for the first time. With butterflies in my stomach, I called her right back so we could make plans for the next day. Once we started talking, the butterflies were replaced with total excitement, because like Channing, she has this ability to make you feel like you’ve known her forever. It obviously runs in the family, much like their gorgeous green eyes and their love of the simple life.

The next day Kay picked me up and it was so great to finally see her in person. We gave each other a big hug in the car and started what ended up being a 10 hour gab fest on Chan, his girlfriend Jenna Dewan (who they all rightfully ADORE by the way), his family, his career, my family, my life, the site…I think you get the point. We talked about everything, and I loved every second of it.

CTU EXCLUSIVE: Channing Tatum's Mom Kay and Sister PaigeSadly, Chan’s dad Glenn and his sister Paige were not able to join us. Glenn had promised to help a neighbor that day and Paige had to work. Even though Paige was not able to come with us, she used her connections at a local museum to get us passes to tour around and look at the exhibits while we talked. At one point, we realized that we were doing a lot more gabbing than looking, so we grabbed a snack at a café inside the museum and stayed there until they almost had to kick us out.

After the museum, we headed on over to the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica to have dinner where (you guessed it) we talked some more and visited a local bookstore. I’m sure you’re all dying to know what we talked about for so long. To protect the innocent (or not so innocent in some cases), I can’t divulge everything, but I can share a few things I learned.

Baby Pictures of Channing Tatum at Age 2 (Thanks to Chan's Mom!)Chan’s family is very close, so his parents moved out from Florida to California a few years ago so they could be near Chan and his sister Paige. Growing up in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, Chan was an extremely active child who played and loved practically every sport, except basketball. Before the age of five Chan had had more stitches than his mom could count, but surprisingly has never broken a bone (knock on wood).

To channel all of his natural energy, Kay and Glenn enrolled Chan in karate when he was young. He was so good at it that he was able to earn his blackbelt by the age of 11. Kay also confirmed that Chan has some serious Gremlins when it comes to technology and that she’s personally seen a perfectly new Ipod plain outright refuse to work after Chan got a hold of it.

With the success that Channing has achieved in such a short period of time, it’s surprising to know that acting was not originally in the plan. Chan was hooked after he did his first international commercial for Pepsi where he plays a DJ in the famed Copacabana and has continued to hone his craft ever since then. He truly loves everything about it, immerses himself in it to learn everything that he can, is ready to flex his producing muscles with projects he has lined up, and is also writing a script with Jenna.

CTU EXCLUSIVE: Channing Tatum's Parents (Kay and Glenn Tatum)Not surprisingly, he’s a big old softy and Kay told me a cute story about how Chan wanted to do something special for director Anne Fletcher before he started filming ‘Step Up‘. He got it in his head that he wanted to make Anne a spirit stick for the first day of filming. Chan knew exactly what he wanted it to look like and described it to his parents so they could get everything he needed while he was in rehearsals for the movie.

Kay and Glenn being the supportive parents they are went around Baltimore finding all of the materials, but could not find the kind of stick that Chan really wanted. At some point, Chan saw what he thought would be the perfect stick on the banks of the Baltimore harbor. It was slimy and yucky, but after a bath in bleach, they are able to salvage this perfectly crooked piece of wood and make the spirit stick Chan wanted.

Chan has had a lot of great people in his life that have helped him get to where he is now. People like Sting’s wife and ‘A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints’ producer Trudie Styler who invited studio executives over to her house just to show them footage of Chan as Antonio in ‘Saints’ before the movie was even done, which put him on the path to getting his role in ‘Stop-Loss’.

Along the way, Chan also had a very supportive acting coach who believed in him so much, she trained him without taking payment. Once he got his first big paycheck, Chan not only paid her for all of the free classes, but he asked his mom to have a special quilt made with a phrase that the teacher often used embroidered on it and to stuff the quilt with the payment. Kay had the quilt made and she and Paige stuffed the money inside so Chan could deliver it to the teacher that supported both he and Jenna as their stars were rising.

For me, a person’s true character is what they do when people aren’t looking, so I really loved the stories that Kay was telling me, because they are one of the many examples of who Chan is as a person when the cameras are not rolling. With Chan and Jenna, what you see is what you get. They are the two most non-Hollywood celebrities that you will ever find. In today’s world, it’s refreshing to know that people like that do exist, and they have their family backing them up every step of the way.

Chan told me at Teen Choice the day before that he had a couple of meetings on Monday, but we would try to have dinner. While Kay and I were at dinner, he called his mom to apologize for not being able to meet us. Incredibly, his meetings had gone so well that day that he had a follow up meeting with a Hollywood screen legend that has written a script, is planning on directing it I believe, and is considering Chan for a role. When that kind of thing happens, it’s important that actors do their homework and learn as much as they can about the person they are going to meet with, so I completely understood why he could not come to dinner that night. Chan’s mom handed me the phone so I could talk to him and it was so cute to hear how excited he was about the potential role and meeting the well-established actor that you all would recognize in a heartbeat.

It’s always great to see how Chan is not jaded with this kind of stuff. Every new milestone is met with excitement, because he’s so humble about everything. Before we got off the phone, he said that we would try to meet with me the next day before I left, so I kept my fingers crossed.

After almost 10 hours and numerous phone calls from Glenn checking on Kay to make sure I had not kidnapped her (just kidding), Kay finally dropped me off back at my bestfriend’s house. It was really late, so Glenn called one more time to check on Kay, and he told her to thank me for everything I do here at CTU.

In Kay fashion, she tells him that he can tell me himself. She hands me the phone, and he proceeds to do just that. I was so surprised to hear his slight New Orleans accent and was touched by what he had to say. I’m warning you people right now, if Chan’s parents disappear one day, he should know exactly where to check. I’m not kidding when I say that if I had enough room in my suitcase for them to comfortably fit, they would have made an unplanned trip to Houston. ;-)

Channing Tatum, Mom Kay, Dad Glenn, and Sister Paige at 'Step Up' Premiere (August 2006)I can’t thank Kay enough for spending so much time with me, for sharing her stories and her family with me, and for letting me share mine with her. I truly treasured the entire day with my new friend. I saw a kindred spirit in her and fell in love with the fact that she’s such a proud mom and that Chan’s family is so supportive of him. That support definitely goes both ways, and I’m not surprised, because he learned from the best.

In my next and final post on my incredible trip to LA, you will get to hear all about my fabulous dinner with Channing Tatum and his girlfriend Jenna Dewan.

This is post #3 in a series of 4 articles about my trip. You can CLICK HERE to read the first article that recaps my visit with ‘Stop-Loss‘ director Kimberly Peirce, CLICK HERE to read all about my adventures at the Teen Choice Awards, and CLICK HERE to read all of the articles from my trip.

CTU EXCLUSIVE: New Personal Photos of Channing Tatum’s Girlfriend Jenna Dewan at Gabriella Axelrad Education Foundation Gala

June 7, 2008

My two favorite things to write about on this site are personal pictures sent to me by Chan and his family and fan encounters. For the first time, I get to write about both in one post.

As I recently mentioned, Channing Tatum’s girlfriend Jenna Dewan was chosen to receive the Limelight Award from the Gabriella Axelrad Education Foundation at their annual gala last Saturday night. It was a private event, and I had not been able to find any photos.

Fast forward to this past Thursday when I received a very special email from Chan’s mom Kay. Believe it or not, she sent me exclusive personal photos from the gala that show Jenna, her parents, and Chan’s parents on the campus of UCLA where the event was held.

Although we’ve seen one photo of Jenna’s dad Daryl before, this may be the first time fans are getting to see Jenna’s mom Nancy and step dad Claude.

Even though Chan was sadly not able to attend the event, since he is still filming ‘G.I. Joe‘ in Prague, his parents were their to support his longtime girlfriend, and Chan’s mom told me they are extremely proud of Jenna’s well-deserved achievement.

Here are the great photos that Kay sent us:

Left to Right: Jenna’s Mom Nancy, Jenna’s Step Dad Claude, Jenna, Chan’s Dad Glenn, and Chan’s Mom Kay

Jenna with Fans at the Event

In addition to the family photos above, a fan and longtime CTU reader who ran into Jenna on her way to the event sent in the awesome photo below, which leads me to the fan encounter I previously mentioned…

Fabulous Jenna Dewan fan Mel F. had a lucky encounter with Jenna when she ran into her on the campus of UCLA. Here’s what she had to say about her encounter with the starlet:

Hi Q!

Last Saturday night I was walking home and ran into Jenna Dewan a couple hundred feet from my dorm! She looked absolutely gorgeous..and she was so nice! A couple little girls came over to tell her something about dance and Jenna was such a sweetheart to them. She seems like she’d be great with kids, especially since she’s an inspiration to so many of them. I asked her about Channing, and her face just lit up.. they seem like they’d be the perfect couple! =) It was an amazing encounter, and I hope that Jenna continues to have great success for the future!

- Mel F.

Finally, CTU reader Erin submitted a video that was created by Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan fan Lainy from the Czech Republic. The video shows photos of Jenna working with the children of St. Judes hospital, which I’m sure is part of the reason why she was chosen for this year’s Limelight Award.

You can CLICK HERE to watch the video or you can check it out below. Enjoy!!!

Thanks to Mel for the encounter and to Lainy for the great video!!! I also want to send a huge thanks to Kay for sending us all of the awesome photos and to Jenna and her family for allowing me to share them with her fans here at CTU.

Happy Mother’s Day to Channing Tatum’s Mom, Kay!!!!

May 11, 2008

I just wanted to take a moment to say HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to Chan’s mom Kay and to all of the mother’s out there.

As someone who’s lucky enough to have an amazing mom, I think I can spot a good one a mile away, and I can tell you with all certainty that Channing is extremely lucky to have his mom Kay in his life.

She not only supports him every step of the way (which is why Chan adores her so much), but Kay goes above and beyond the call of duty by being a HUGE supporter of this site and all of Chan’s fans around the world (which is why I adore her so much).

Although many think that all I do is CTU, that could not be further from the truth.

In addition to this site, I’m lucky to have a very full life that includes being a proud mom of the adorable little rugrats you see with me in the photo on the right.

Everyone make sure to celebrate the moms in your life today. I know I will.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Channing Tatum Unwrapped!!!

December 25, 2007

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!! I also want to give a huge thanks to all of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s amazing fans around the world who took the time to submit photos and graphics for this year’s Christmas gift.

I sent the video to Channing, Jenna, and his family a few days ago. They all loved it and are quite impressed by our close-knit, multi-continent family and the obvious love and effort that went into the gift.

See if you can find yourself in the awesome video you’ve all been waiting for…

Click here to take a closer look at all of the pictures in the video.

So what did Chan, Jenna, and his family think about the gift? Here’s the extremely sweet message Channing’s mom Kay sent to all of us:

New Personal Pictures of Channing Tatum, Girlfriend Jenna Dewan, and Sister Paige Hanging Out with Family and Friends

September 21, 2007

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you already know how close Channing Tatum is with his family. Well Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s good friend Josh (the same Josh who just recently sent us some really awesome new baby pictures of Chan and his sister Paige) just sent me more personal pictures of the couple.

Today’s pictures show Channing Tatum, his girlfriend Jenna Dewan and his sister Paige hanging out in a restaurant and at the extremely popular Hollywood hangout Les Deux with friends from Channing’s native state of Alabama when they came to visit Chenna and Paige in California. When it comes to young Hollywood, Les Deux is where it’s at. LC and Audrina from MTV’s “The Hills” come to this Italian-inspired club all the time and CTU readers get a rare look inside with these great pics.

The last two pictures show Channing and Jenna taking pictures with family and friends when they went back to Alabama to attend a wedding of one of Channing’s family members. Enjoy!!!

CTU EXCLUSIVE: New Personal Pictures of Channing Tatum’s Mom, Dad, Sister, and Girlfriend Jenna Dewan

July 19, 2007

Yet again, Channing Tatum and his awesome girlfriend Jenna Dewan have come through for CTU readers by having their good friend Josh send us even more personal pictures.

Below you can see exclusive pictures of Channing’s adorable family. This time we’ve got pics of Channing’s mom, dad, sister, and his gorgeous girlfriend Jenna Dewan hanging out with the family! Enjoy!

It’s no wonder why Channing Tatum is such a cutey, take a look at his adorable parents Kay and Glenn Tatum.

The two woman who got the enviable privilege of watching Channing become the cutey he is today…Chan’s mother Kay and sister Paige.

It is so obvious that Channing’s family loves his girlfriend and she seems to fit right in with the happy crew.
Here’s Chan’s beautiful sister Paige with his girlfriend of around two years, Jenna Dewan.

Since Channing is not actually in these photos and has a known love for photography, I have to assume that he took some or all of these pictures himself. I really want to thank Channing and Jenna for sharing these pics with me and all of my readers! And a big thanks to Josh, as always, for taking the time to help our favorite couple Chenna get them to me!

NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum’s Real Name…We Were All Wrong!!!

June 22, 2007

Above is a picture of Channing Tatum’s 1998 highschool graduting class at Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, Florida. Channing is laying down at the bottom middle of the picture in blue shorts.

Sometimes it can be hard to find out someone’s real name. It’s even harder if you don’t know that the supposed “real name” you see in most places is actually not correct. Practically everywhere you look online you see Channing Tatum’s birthname as “Channing Bryan Isaac Tatum Anderson”.

Well, it seems that the joke is on all of us, because that is NOT his real name. The name that Kay and Glenn Tatum gave their son when he was born is…wait for it…Channing MATTHEW Tatum!!!! And I finally have the proof and the reason why we have all been fooled for many years now.

I ran into a person online who went to Channing’s highschool and they have now cleared up the mystery. Here is what IMDBKID86 had to say:

The school I’m talking about is Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, Florida. Since you’re such a big fan, you probably know that he grew up in Florida. He graduated from my HS in 1998. Here is a link to the school website showing the list of graduated in 1998:

http://tampacatholic.org

When you get there, click on History in the top panel. After that, click on Graduates in the left hand panel. Find 1998 and click it. Then, scroll down to find Channing Tatum’s name.

Here is a screen shot from the site clearly showing Channing’s real name:

So how did all of the crazy “Channing Bryan Isaac Tatum Anderson” stuff get started anyway? It seems that someone made up a whole fake biography about Channing having a brother whose last name was Anderson. The fake bio said things like they were related to someone named Marion Raven from M2M, that they were all going to be on The OC with Demi Moore and all this other information that ended up not being true at all.

This fake biography is also where the now infamous “Channing Bryan Isaac Tatum Anderson” came from and it unfortunately it has persisted…until today that is. To add insult to injury, one of Channing’s first agencies supposedly used the incorrect name in their bio/profile of him, which solidified the lie even more.

So the name mystery has now been cracked and I am going to update his name everywhere on this site. Hopefully with all of our help, we can get his real name out there to other fans and eventually the incorrect name will die a fast death online.

Thanks IMDBKID86 for helping us get to the bottom of this one. I would say that the case of the Fake Channing Tatum Name can finally be closed…now spread the word! :-)

UPDATE: Thanks to a CTU reader, in addition to knowing Channing’s real name, we also now know that Channing was a member of the 1997 - 1998 Tampa Catholic High School varsity soccer team. Here is a screen shot from school’s website that shows the entire team roster:

Channing Tatum’s Long Lost Sister Found by CTU Reader

June 21, 2007

OK. Channing Tatum’s sister was never really lost, but one of my eagle eye readers spotted her in one of my pictures in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped photo gallery. This means that I have actually had a picture of Channing’s sister way before I was sent exclusive personal pictures by Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s friend Josh.

Ironically, I just did not know who the person was in the picture. Because of Josh and CTU reader Amy (recent Fab Fan Spotlight recipient), we now know who the mystery woman is.

So here is a second picture of Channing Tatum’s gorgeous sister with him and Jenna Dewan behind-the-scenes at the Step Up Premiere in August 2006.

You can click here to see the other photos I found and posted way back in April along with the one above that also show Channing and Jenna joking around with Sircuit’s skincare products.

Thanks for the tip, Amy!!!

Happy Father’s Day!!!

June 17, 2007

It is no surprise, but Channing Tatum is extremely close to his family. Here is a cute picture of Channing with his Dad and Mom Kay at the Step Up premiere in 2006:

Although most of my readers are not father’s, I still would like to say Happy Father’s Day to everyone who is. Today is kind of hard for me, because I recently lost my father to lung cancer. I could talk to my dad about anything and this blog was one of the things I would talk about. He was always really happy that I found a hobby that I loved and could truly enjoy.

Losing my Dad has helped me to see even more how important it is to have a good father in your life. So, don’t forgot to wish your father Happy Father’s Day!

I love you, Daddy!

UPDATE: In case you were wondering, Jenna is also really close to her family too, so I thought that I would add this awesome picture of Jenna and her dad from Jenna’s MySpace page:

I can’t even explain how excited I am right now!!!! This is definitely a red letter day in CTU history. When I started this blog, my goal was to create a site that fans could come to everyday and find new and interesting information on Channing Tatum and his world.

I, like any other fan site, always hoped that one day, Channing and/or his “people” would somehow notice the site and decide to start sending information that fans could not get anywhere else.

Well, I am extremely happy to say that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s friend Josh just sent me what I consider to be the holy grail of any fan site. Below you will find exclusive personal pictures of Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, and Channing’s family.

This is a behind-the-scenes picture of Channing and Jenna at the Step Up premiere.

This picture is a huge deal, because Josh said it is one of the first pictures showing Channing’s beautiful sister! (You heard it here first…now we know for sure that Channing has a sister and hot seems to run in the family.)

This picture is an adorable photo of Channing with his cousin Hunter. Notice how Hunter is throwing up the duce just like Channing does in a lot of his pictures. It’s obvious that cuteness definitely runs in the family too. :-)

Thank you so much Josh, Channing, and Jenna for sending me and my readers these awesome pictures!!! Click here if you want to see more personal pictures of Channing Tatum.

Everyone also make sure to visit Josh’s Samantha Jade fan site on MySpace.

New Pictures of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Behind-the-Scenes at Step Up Premiere

April 10, 2007

In a blog post last month, I talked about the secret to looking like Channing Tatum by using his Sircuit skin regimen.

Although these cute pictures of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan clowning around behind-the-scenes at the Step Up premiere were taken last August by Sircuit, the skin care company just posted them on their new blog.

The first picture is so cute to me, because I am fairly certain that you can see Channing’s mom proudly looking at her handsome son from the back of the van they are in. Check out Channing being his usual silly self:

I wish that these were pictures showing that Channing and Jenna are still a happy couple, but I have not been able to find any confirmation on that yet. As soon as I find anything, you all will be the first to know.

CHANNING TATUM FOR DUMMIES: What kind of relationship does Channing Tatum have with his family?

January 26, 2007

Although I feel I know a lot about Channing Tatum, I don’t personally know him. I think one of the best ways to get to know anyone is to understand what kind of relationship they have with their family. Like if you find a guy that’s hates his mom or is really disrespectful to his siblings, you may want to think twice before starting a longterm relationship with them. (Sorry, didn’t mean to get all Dr. Phil on you.)

Anyway, from what I can tell , I don’t think we need to worry about Channing. In his own words, here are some of the things he has said about his family in interviews…

[Channing talking about his’s family’s experience while he filmed his 2006 movie She’s The Man.]
“I come from a family that doesn’t know much about Hollywood, and who doesn’t have a lot of money…My parents haven’t seen many movies, let alone been on the set of one, until this. The producers and director made them feel so welcomed on the set. And my family really had a really good time, too. They have never experienced anything so exciting. My father even got to sit in the director’s chair.”

[Channing Tatum talking about his close relationship with his grandparents.]
“[I have childhood memories] from where my grandmother Nana and my Papa used to live. I loved my Nana and my Papa. They were my roots. Every summer my folks sent me off to the country to stay with them, hoping to keep me out of trouble. And you know grandparents are so real they don’t even know how to be fake. They never bother saying what you want to hear, they just say “this is the way it is.” I’d get up to something and they would just look at me and shake their heads and say: “Oh Channing …”"

[Channing Tatum talking about his close relationship with his mother and father.]
“If it wasn’t for my mom, I just would not be here today. Not just the physical part of bringing me into this world, but she got me through everything…She totally saved my life. She was the cornerstone. She got me through it no matter how bad it got…She would never let me give up. Her word was relentless. Whenever I wanted to give up, she got me through it. When you’re young, you always think you have it so terrible. But I look back on it all now and I realize how bad I didn’t have it. I am who I am because of the way they raised me, and I’m so happy for it. I’ve really tried to take all the good things from everyone in my life and hold onto them.”

Through these interviews, Channing has given us a window into his relationship with his family that I feel shows how strong of a bond he seems to have with them. I am sure it’s the hopeless romantic in me, but there is something really endearing about a man who is secure enough to express how much he cares about the people who raised him. All I have to say is that Jenna is one lucky girl. :-)

Channing Tatum Unwrapped…The Early Years (Part 1)

January 16, 2007

There’s a great twelve page (yes I said 12 page) Channing Tatum biography on the site ModelLaunch.com that you may not have the time to read, so I thought I would give you some of the highlights broken out over a few blog entries. For all those who want to learn as much as you can about Channing here you go…

Before the Channing Tatum we now know was recklessly retrieving his soda in a Mountain Dew commercial, playing shirtless soccer in She’s the Man, or making us swoon with his dance skills in Step Up, the approximately 6′1″ Taurus was born Channing Matthew Tatum on April 26, 1980 in a sleepy town outside of Montgomery, Alabama, called Culman.

In the article, Channing mentions his fond memories of the carefree summers he spent with his grandmother, Nana, and grandfather, Papa, (how cute is that?) in the country where he was always up to something. His family left Alabama when he was six to live in Mississippi where he grew up chasing rattlesnakes and alligators, fishing, playing Pop Warner football, and getting into anything else a boy could do to keep busy in the Mississippi River bayou.

Blessed with athletic ability from an early age, Channing’s parents kept him involved in football, soccer, track, baseball, and marshall arts to keep their energetic child out of trouble. The self-professed flirt also says that he was easily distracted by any cute girl he came across in class.

Out of all his many activities, Channing’s true love was martial arts. He loved the tournaments, the fighting, the focus, the adrenaline, and the fact that, unlike team sports, “it was completely up to me to be however great I wanted to be”.

Even with a full schedule, somehow he still found time to get into a little trouble (surprise, surprise), so his dad shipped him off to private school in the ninth grade where he played football and found what he calls a “really good girl” who had the enviable pleasure of helping him with school and “trying to be good”. :-)

Tune in for Part 2 where you’ll learn more about Channing’s plans after highschool and about the sport and the woman that helped to shape the man we know and love today.
