CHANNING TATUM VIDEO OF THE WEEK: The Making of Ciara’s ‘Get Up’ Video with Chan and Jenna
September 27, 2008
Today’s awesome Video of the Week was submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Fan Naz from London. This is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Ciara’s ‘Get Up’ video (which also features a rap by Chamillionaire) for Chan and Jenna’s 2006 dance hit ‘Step Up‘.
Since our favorite couple Chenna has a cameo in the music video, we get to see footage of them shooting their dance, and they are also interviewed. Enjoy!
Thanks to Naz for sending in this great blast from the past!
If you have a favorite video that you would like me to consider, send a link to the video to votw@channingtatumunwrapped.com and tell me why you like it. I will post it and your explanation on the blog.
CTU EXCLUSIVE: Learn About Channing Tatum Through the Eyes of His Mom Kay
August 11, 2008
If you’ve been reading CTU for a while, then you know it was a little over a year ago when I received a surprising and extremely sweet email from Channing Tatum’s mom Kay thanking me for the site and letting me know that the family read it to keep up with Chan’s career. It was so incredible, flattering, and unbelievable, and Kay even started sending in Pictures of the Week, baby photos, and exclusive info on Chan’s upcoming projects both before and after Chan made CTU his official site.
Through all of our emails over the past year, I’m glad to say that Kay and I formed a friendship, so one of the things I was most looking forward to on my recent trip to LA was to finally meet Chan’s family in person. As I write this post, it’s hard for me to stop smiling, because my day with Kay and my dinner with Chan and Jenna the next day were hands down my favorite parts of the trip. Teen Choice was awesome, but for me, what really made the trip was to be able to spend quality time with both old and new friends.
I’ll cover my dinner with Chan and Jenna tomorrow, but in today’s post, you all get to hear about my awesome day with Mama Kay…
On Sunday, I was getting ready for the Teen Choice Awards and realized that I had missed a call on my phone. Turns out, the message was from Kay and it was great to hear her adorable southern accent for the first time. With butterflies in my stomach, I called her right back so we could make plans for the next day. Once we started talking, the butterflies were replaced with total excitement, because like Channing, she has this ability to make you feel like you’ve known her forever. It obviously runs in the family, much like their gorgeous green eyes and their love of the simple life.
The next day Kay picked me up and it was so great to finally see her in person. We gave each other a big hug in the car and started what ended up being a 10 hour gab fest on Chan, his girlfriend Jenna Dewan (who they all rightfully ADORE by the way), his family, his career, my family, my life, the site…I think you get the point. We talked about everything, and I loved every second of it.
Sadly, Chan’s dad Glenn and his sister Paige were not able to join us. Glenn had promised to help a neighbor that day and Paige had to work. Even though Paige was not able to come with us, she used her connections at a local museum to get us passes to tour around and look at the exhibits while we talked. At one point, we realized that we were doing a lot more gabbing than looking, so we grabbed a snack at a café inside the museum and stayed there until they almost had to kick us out.
After the museum, we headed on over to the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica to have dinner where (you guessed it) we talked some more and visited a local bookstore. I’m sure you’re all dying to know what we talked about for so long. To protect the innocent (or not so innocent in some cases), I can’t divulge everything, but I can share a few things I learned.
Chan’s family is very close, so his parents moved out from Florida to California a few years ago so they could be near Chan and his sister Paige. Growing up in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, Chan was an extremely active child who played and loved practically every sport, except basketball. Before the age of five Chan had had more stitches than his mom could count, but surprisingly has never broken a bone (knock on wood).
To channel all of his natural energy, Kay and Glenn enrolled Chan in karate when he was young. He was so good at it that he was able to earn his blackbelt by the age of 11. Kay also confirmed that Chan has some serious Gremlins when it comes to technology and that she’s personally seen a perfectly new Ipod plain outright refuse to work after Chan got a hold of it.
With the success that Channing has achieved in such a short period of time, it’s surprising to know that acting was not originally in the plan. Chan was hooked after he did his first international commercial for Pepsi where he plays a DJ in the famed Copacabana and has continued to hone his craft ever since then. He truly loves everything about it, immerses himself in it to learn everything that he can, is ready to flex his producing muscles with projects he has lined up, and is also writing a script with Jenna.
Not surprisingly, he’s a big old softy and Kay told me a cute story about how Chan wanted to do something special for director Anne Fletcher before he started filming ‘Step Up‘. He got it in his head that he wanted to make Anne a spirit stick for the first day of filming. Chan knew exactly what he wanted it to look like and described it to his parents so they could get everything he needed while he was in rehearsals for the movie.
Kay and Glenn being the supportive parents they are went around Baltimore finding all of the materials, but could not find the kind of stick that Chan really wanted. At some point, Chan saw what he thought would be the perfect stick on the banks of the Baltimore harbor. It was slimy and yucky, but after a bath in bleach, they are able to salvage this perfectly crooked piece of wood and make the spirit stick Chan wanted.
Chan has had a lot of great people in his life that have helped him get to where he is now. People like Sting’s wife and ‘A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints’ producer Trudie Styler who invited studio executives over to her house just to show them footage of Chan as Antonio in ‘Saints’ before the movie was even done, which put him on the path to getting his role in ‘Stop-Loss’.
Along the way, Chan also had a very supportive acting coach who believed in him so much, she trained him without taking payment. Once he got his first big paycheck, Chan not only paid her for all of the free classes, but he asked his mom to have a special quilt made with a phrase that the teacher often used embroidered on it and to stuff the quilt with the payment. Kay had the quilt made and she and Paige stuffed the money inside so Chan could deliver it to the teacher that supported both he and Jenna as their stars were rising.
For me, a person’s true character is what they do when people aren’t looking, so I really loved the stories that Kay was telling me, because they are one of the many examples of who Chan is as a person when the cameras are not rolling. With Chan and Jenna, what you see is what you get. They are the two most non-Hollywood celebrities that you will ever find. In today’s world, it’s refreshing to know that people like that do exist, and they have their family backing them up every step of the way.
Chan told me at Teen Choice the day before that he had a couple of meetings on Monday, but we would try to have dinner. While Kay and I were at dinner, he called his mom to apologize for not being able to meet us. Incredibly, his meetings had gone so well that day that he had a follow up meeting with a Hollywood screen legend that has written a script, is planning on directing it I believe, and is considering Chan for a role. When that kind of thing happens, it’s important that actors do their homework and learn as much as they can about the person they are going to meet with, so I completely understood why he could not come to dinner that night. Chan’s mom handed me the phone so I could talk to him and it was so cute to hear how excited he was about the potential role and meeting the well-established actor that you all would recognize in a heartbeat.
It’s always great to see how Chan is not jaded with this kind of stuff. Every new milestone is met with excitement, because he’s so humble about everything. Before we got off the phone, he said that we would try to meet with me the next day before I left, so I kept my fingers crossed.
After almost 10 hours and numerous phone calls from Glenn checking on Kay to make sure I had not kidnapped her (just kidding), Kay finally dropped me off back at my bestfriend’s house. It was really late, so Glenn called one more time to check on Kay, and he told her to thank me for everything I do here at CTU.
In Kay fashion, she tells him that he can tell me himself. She hands me the phone, and he proceeds to do just that. I was so surprised to hear his slight New Orleans accent and was touched by what he had to say. I’m warning you people right now, if Chan’s parents disappear one day, he should know exactly where to check. I’m not kidding when I say that if I had enough room in my suitcase for them to comfortably fit, they would have made an unplanned trip to Houston.
I can’t thank Kay enough for spending so much time with me, for sharing her stories and her family with me, and for letting me share mine with her. I truly treasured the entire day with my new friend. I saw a kindred spirit in her and fell in love with the fact that she’s such a proud mom and that Chan’s family is so supportive of him. That support definitely goes both ways, and I’m not surprised, because he learned from the best.
In my next and final post on my incredible trip to LA, you will get to hear all about my fabulous dinner with Channing Tatum and his girlfriend Jenna Dewan.

Channing Tatum Pictures of the Week: Fabulous Fan Drawing and Graphic Submission
July 15, 2008
Each week Channing Tatum Unwrapped will post one or more of our favorite pictures of the uber hot Channing Tatum.
Today’s Pictures of the Week were submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fans Brad and Mehek who have both created the beautiful original artwork and graphic you see on this post for Channing Tatum Unwrapped readers to use and enjoy.
The original photos have an obvious Chenna (aka Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan) theme and came from a promotional photo shoot for their popular 2006 dance movie ‘Step Up‘ and photos from Jenna’s birthday party at the Forge in Miami Beach, Florida on December 2, 2006.
Fans can check out Brad and Mehek’s awesome submissions below:

Vote for Channing Tatum, ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’, and ‘Stop-Loss’ at 2008 Teen Choice Awards!!!
June 17, 2008
It’s that time again my fellow Channaholics!!! They just announced the 2008 Teen Choice Awards nominees this morning, and Channing Tatum, Ryan Phillippe, Briana Evigan, ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘, and ‘Stop-Loss‘ have all been nominated for awards this year.
Channing’s on a roll…This past week he was voted the #3 Hottest Young Actor by The Movie Fanatic’s readers. Just a few months ago all of Chan’s fabulous fans here at CTU helped him win the coveted Hottest Man Alive designation, and last year we helped Channing, Jenna Dewan, and their dance hit ‘Step Up’ win a 2007 Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Dance, and Chan even sent us all a personal thank you message for all of our hard work.
Now, we all need to band together once again to help Channing and his co-stars win their categories for this year’s awards.
The Show
M&M Cru with a U leader and teen sensation Miley Cyrus is set to host the awards show which is scheduled to air all around the world Monday, Aug. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The 10th annual special will celebrate the hottest teen icons in film, television, music, comedy, sports and fashion.
The Voting
When you vote, you can make only one choice per category, per day, per email address, but you can vote EVERY DAY, so make sure to do so. ;-D Also, they do not require you to vote for every category for your vote to count, and all of Channing’s categories are luckily on the first page of voting.
The Lineup
You can CLICK HERE to get a list of all of the categories and nominees, but here’s all of the categories that involve Chan, his co-stars, and his films:
Choice Movie Actor: Drama
Channing Tatum - Stop-Loss
Emile Hirsch - Into the Wild
Jake Gyllenhaal - Rendition
Mark Wahlberg - We Own the Night
Ryan Phillippe - Stop-LossChoice Movie: Drama
21
August Rush
Into The Wild
Step Up 2: The Streets
Stop-LossChoice Movie: Breakout Female
Ellen Page - Juno
Briana Evigan - Step Up 2: The Streets
Jurnee Smollett -The Great Debaters
Kristen Bell - Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Mila Kunis - Forgetting Sarah Marshall
So as you can see, there’s a bit of a dilemma here. Channing is going against friend and ‘Stop-Loss‘ co-star Ryan Phillippe, and his two movies ‘Step Up 2‘ and ‘Stop-Loss‘ are competing against each other too. You all can obviously vote however you choose, but I personally would have to go with Chan and Briana on this one, and then might split my votes between ‘Step Up 2‘ and ‘Stop-Loss‘.
The Mission
Here’s you’re mission if you choose to accept it…Starting today, fans can vote for their favorite Teen Choice 2008 nominees at www.teenchoiceawards.com. Winners of the coveted surfboard awards will be announced during the two-hour celebration broadcast from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA.
I’ve seen you all do it before, so I’m confident that we can work together to make sure Channing runs away with all of his categories. I can already see him standing up on that stage thanking all of his fans here at CTU. Make Mamma Chan Fan proud…Vote early and vote often for Channing Tatum and his films online at www.TeenChoiceAwards.com!!!!
Congrats to Chan, Robert, Briana, ‘Step Up 2‘ and ‘Stop-Loss‘ on their nominations!!!
CHANNING TATUM PICTURES OF THE WEEK: Fabulous Fan Photo Submission
June 16, 2008
Each week Channing Tatum Unwrapped will post one or more of our favorite pictures of the uber hot Channing Tatum.
Today’s Picture of the Week was submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Terb and is a picture of Channing Tatum and Jenna in the music video Ciara created for her song ‘Get Up’ on the popular ‘Step Up‘ soundtrack.
Here’s why Terb chose this photo as Picture of the Week:
“…I love this picture of CHENNA because they look so hot when they’re dancing together!”

NEWS FLASH: ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’ and Special Edition ‘Step Up’ DVD’s Bundled Together for July 2008 UK Release
June 14, 2008
Here’s the cover for the UK Region 2 DVD for Channing Tatum, Robert Hoffman, and Briana Evigan’s worldwide dance hit ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘.
Universal Pictures just announced that the UK DVD will actually be released one day before the Region 1 DVD in the US. UK fans can buy the new DVD on July 14, 2008, and it’s retailing for £19.99.
And to make up for the fact that the UK Region 2 DVD release of Chan’s 2006 movie ‘Step Up‘ did not include the extras we had on the US version for some reason, Universal has decided to re-release the movie with all of the goodies in a Special Edition bundle with the sequel.
The ‘Step Up’ / ‘Step Up 2 The Streets’ Double the Dance box-set will retail for £24.99, and the special edition content on the first film includes the following:
- Deleted Scenes
- Bloopers
- ‘Making the Moves’ Featurette
- Feature Commentary by Anne Fletcher (Director Step Up / Producer Step Up 2), Hip Hop Choreographer Jamal Sims and Stars Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan
- Music Videos:
- “Step Up” – Samantha Jade
- “(When you gonna) Give It Up To Me” – Sean Paul featuring Keisha Cole
- “Say Goodbye” – Chris Brown
- “Get Up” – Ciara
Here’s a blast from the past that I think you all will enjoy. Like ‘Step Up‘, I’ve watched this interview tons of times, and I love it every single time! Oddly enough, it’s one of the few interviews that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan did together when they were promoting ‘Step Up‘.
It’s their appearance on CBS’s The Early Show with co-anchor Rene Syler where they treated the audience by showing them some of their signature moves and gave Syler a short dance lesson on the ever-popular B-More Bounce.
You can CLICK HERE or on the image above to check out the video. You can also CLICK HERE to see a few more photos of Chan and Jenna with fans at the interview. Enjoy!
Channing Tatum Pictures of the Week: Fabulous Fan Photo Submission
May 17, 2008
Each week Channing Tatum Unwrapped will post one or more of our favorite pictures of the uber hot Channing Tatum.
Today’s Picture of the Week was submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Terb and is a picture of Chan from his 2006 dance hit ‘Step Up‘.
Here’s why Terb chose this photo as Picture of the Week:
This is my favorite picture of Channing Tatum, because when I first saw ‘Step Up’, I was struck by the expression in his eyes as he was watching Nora teach ballet. I kept thinking, “Is he just a really good actor, or is that lovestruck expression for real?” now that I found out about Chenna (I’m actually a latebloomer fan since I only saw step up last week), I know it’s a combination of both. Chan is a really good actor, and he’s really in love with his girl. I love it!!!

THE BIGGEST ONLINE DANCE BATTLE EVER…Miley and Mandy’s Response with Chan and Jenna?!?!?!?
April 14, 2008
Just a few days ago, ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘ director Jon M. Chu contacted me to give me the inside scoop on the battle he and Adam “Moose” Sevani have waged against the one and only Miley Cyrus and her best bud Mandy Jirouex (aka M&M) of the YouTube-famed Miley and Mandy Show. You can CLICK HERE to see how it all started.
Well, we’ve now gotten a response and all I can say is OH NO THEY DIDN’T!!!! I gotta give it to Milez and Manderz, it seems that they will stop at nothing to win this battle, including having Miley’s grandma join her crew.
She did the one thing that Jon was not able to do in ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘. Miley not only took it to the streets, she (as Jon put it) KIDNAPPED Channing Tatum AND Jenna Dewan!!!! Now that’s what I call bringing in a ringer (or two in this case). To which I respond…OH IT IS SO ON!!!
Take a look at Miley and Mandy’s video response to Jon and Adam’s dance crew ACDC:
Here’s what Jon has to say about it…
“The battle is OFFICIALLY ON, and it’s just the beginning….Prepare for the response.”
Is anyone else as excited as I am?!?!? M&M’s comeback was impressive, but I can’t wait to see what Jon and Adam have up their sleeves. I’m thinking that Miley and Mandy better watch their backs.
Stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped for your inside scoop on THE BIGGEST ONLINE DANCE BATTLE EVER!!!
RUMOR OR REEL?: Jon M. Chu Will Direct Disney’s ‘Step Up 3-D’!!!!
February 27, 2008
I am extremely happy to say that this one is “REEL”!!! Because of the phenomenal success of Channing Tatum’s ‘Step Up‘ and ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘, Disney has already decided to greenlight a third film called ‘Step Up 3-D’! You heard me right people…parts of the movie will actually be filmed in 3-D!!!!
Jon M. Chu, the insanely talented director of ‘Step Up 2‘, contacted me to let me know he is currently in negotiations to direct ‘Step Up 3-D’. After seeing what he did with ‘Step Up 2‘, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the negotiations work out, and we get to see another Jon Chu movie on the big screen soon. He’s an extremely cool guy and very passionate about his projects and that passion translates well on screen.
Even though he’s not officially directing the movie yet, here’s what Jon has to say about ‘Step Up 3-D’:
“The MOST AMAZING DANCE MOVIE EVER and the FIRST 3D DANCE MOVIE since Michael Jackson’s Captain EO. If you thought Step up 2 The Streets was explosive…this will knock you straight out of your socks. Get ready. It’s on. Well, almost. We just have to work out our deals, which could mean anything.”
If you want to learn a little more about Jon, feel free to check out a couple of great articles in The New York Times and the Palo Alto Daily News.
Most importantly, I want everyone here at CTU to wish Jon good luck on getting this directing gig. I don’t know at this point if Channing will be a part of the new movie, but I can safely say that we all can’t wait to see ‘Step Up 3-D’ in theaters (directed by Jon. M. Chu)!!!

Channing Tatum Videos of the Week: Channning Tatum and Jenna Dewan Interviews in ‘Step Up’ Extended Trailer

This is a video that was recently posted on YouTube and is a rarely seen ‘Step Up‘ movie trailer showing interviews with the Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, and the MySpace dance contest winners as they shoot the Ciara video for the film. You can click here to see the video or you can watch it below. Enjoy!!!
