VIDEOS OF THE WEEK: New Trailers for Channing Tatum’s ‘21 Jump Street’ and ‘Haywire’ and FIRST LOOK at ‘G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation’
November 17, 2011
In today’s Videos of the Week we have three new trailers and first look footage for Channing Tatum’s comedy ‘21 Jump Street‘ and action films ‘Haywire‘ and ‘G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation‘.
First up, we have the hilarious red and green band trailers for ‘21 Jump Street‘! I loved hanging out on the New Orleans set of the film this summer when they shot at Riverdale High School in Jefferson, Louisiana (which is right outside of NOLA and very close to where Chan’s dad Glenn grew up in Metairie). Rumor has it that Chan even made a surprise visit to his dad’s old house during filming. Can you imagine Chan showing up on your doorstep?
This particular trip was my all-time favorite thus far, because it was truly a family affair…from Jenna, Meeka and Lulu to Chan’s Mom to my boys and hubby, we all descended upon New Orleans to visit Chan on set. My kids had an incredible time on their first film set, and it was great to meet Chan’s co-stars, the crew and the directors!
As always, I LOVE observing the film-making process both in front of and behind the camera. I’m really glad my boys were able to watch a couple of hilarious scenes with Chan, Jonah, Rob Riggles, and the school’s principal being filmed (since the movie is rated R and they’re going to have to wait a few years to see it in it’s entirety).
They even got to see Rob getting his CGI makeup done and the setup of a great CGI scene where Chan and Jonah are under the influence and hallucinating. Chan showed us additional footage of what I’ll call “The Bandroom Scene” that didn’t make it into the trailer, but I truly hope makes the film. Chan was friggin HI-larious in the scene and had all of us rolling.
In case you don’t know what it’s about, here’s the official synopsis for the movie:
In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.
As “21 Jump Street” alum Holly Robinson Peete says (both she and Johnny Depp have a cameo in the film)… “this isn’t your parents 21 Jump Street”, but I’m loving their comedic take on the 80’s show and was excited to see footage shot during our set visit featured in the new trailers.
Without further ado, watch the red and green band trailers below…
Next up, we have a newly released kick-ass 2nd trailer for Chan’s Steven Soderbergh-directed action film ”Haywire‘ via Entertainment Weekly. The film was recently chosen as the surprise screening at the AFI Film Festival, and here’s what critics had to say about the movie…
One of the best film critics in the business, Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter, called the flick “engaging” and said that newbie lead actress, and MMA starlet, Gina Carano, “kicks considerable ass.” Other trade paper Variety chimed in too, calling the action heavy movie “breathtaking” and Carano “coolly charismatic.”
Check out the new trailer…
Last, but not least, we have a FIRST LOOK at ‘G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation courtesy of Entertainment Tonight. After wrapping on ‘Magic Mike‘, Chan returned to the set of Joe to finish filming and officially wrapped on the sequel last week. Fans can check out a sneak peek here…
”Haywire‘ hits theaters on January 20th, ‘21 Jump Street‘ on March 16th and ‘G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation on June 29th next year, and fans can also check out trailers for ‘21 Jump Street‘ and G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation during the telecast for Super Bowl XLVI this February!

NEWS FLASH: Filming Kicks Off Today on Channing Tatum’s ‘G.I. Joe 2′
August 15, 2011
Channing Tatum’s “How I Spent My Summer” speech would go a little something like this…
“I finished filming my comedy ‘21 Jump Street‘ in New Orleans last month, spent my 2nd anniversary with my wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum at the Viceroy in Anguilla (even ran into a few fans on the way home), promoted my upcoming film ‘Haywire‘ at Comic-Con in San Diego, worked out to prep for upcoming films, and visited Jenna in Chicago where she’s filming her show ‘The Playboy Club‘. We both had fun hanging out with fans at the online screening of the documentary ‘Jig’. While in Chi-town, we had lunch at Hub 51, drinks at Rockit Bar & Grill, and enjoyed beef lollipops, Asian steak and vegan fare with friends at Sunda.”
Needless-to-say, it’s been a busy summer, and a few days ago Chan headed back to The Big Easy to start working on ‘G.I. Joe 2‘, the sequel to his $302 million grossing action film ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘, and director Jon Chu (’Step Up 2‘, ‘Step Up 3D‘, ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’) is reporting that filming on the science fiction-action film sequel officially started in a “secret location” TODAY!!!
Chan talked about the film with Rogue at Comic-Con earlier this month…
In addition to Chan (Duke), the main cast also includes Byung Hun Lee (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snakes Eyes), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye), Ray Stevenson (Firefly), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Elodie Yung (ninja Jinx), D.J. Cotrona (Flint), RZA (martial arts guru Blind Master), Joe Mazzello (Mouse), Walton Goggins (warden Nigel James) and possibly Bruce Willis (original G.I. Joe General Joe Colton).
The casting directors are currently casting for principal actor roles, supporting roles, day players, extras, photo doubles and stand-ins for the film’s stars. You can CLICK HERE to get details on where to submit your resume and information. You can also CLICK HERE to register as an extra.
Chief Operating Officer Brian Goldner will oversee production for Hasbro, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Erik Howsam will produce for Di Bonaventura Pictures. The film’s script was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of ‘Zombieland’, and they have worked closely with Hasbro throughout script development.
Recently, Paramount announced a change in the official release date for what’s being tentatively called ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘ . The movie will now hit theaters June 29th, 2012 and will film in New Orleans through the end of November.
Stay tuned to CTU for the latest news on the film and for exclusive pics of Chan on set!

RUMOR OR REEL?: New Name and Filming Location for the Sequel to Channing Tatum’s ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra’
April 19, 2011
Recently, Paramount announced an official release date for the sequel to Channing Tatum’s $302 million grossing action film ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘.
Now, rumors are floating around about a possible name and potential filming location for the highly-anticipated movie…
If you’ll recall, ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ filmed all over the world…California, Czech Republic, France, and more. NOLA.com is not only reporting that the film’s sequel will be called ‘G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes‘, but that it will also possibly shoot in Baton Rouge from August 1st through late November (according to Louisiana’s office of film and video).
As many of you know, Chan is currently working on his comedy ‘21 Jump Street‘ in New Orleans (about 90 minutes from Baton Rouge) through June, so filming for ‘G.I. Joe 2‘ could extend his stay in the Bayou State.
Jon Chu (’Step Up 2‘, ‘Step Up 3D‘, ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’), who’s directing the sequel, recently told Box Office Magazine…
“There’s something about G.I. Joe that has history, that has a soul…very few brands have a soul. Like the Boy Scouts have something to do with America, even Mickey Mouse, even Apple has a soul to it. And Joe has a soul. And I’ve never felt like I’ve had a movie of Joe of where I can taste my childhood right there.”
In his interview, Jon also mentions that the script (written by “Zombieland” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick) “is really good”, and they are working to “build in a few more things that will make it even better”.
In his pursuit to create a film with a “grittiness” and a “new attitude”, he let Box Office Magazine know that he would love to take it to the next level in 3D, but the final decision has not been made yet.
The production is currently in the beginning of the film making process…picking and designing characters and the worlds they will live in. Jon is also forming his production team and in true Jon style wants the fans to help decide what characters make it onto the screen.
In addition to Chan’s “Duke Hauser”, which characters do you want to see in ‘G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes‘ when it hits theaters on August 10th, 2012? Tweet your requests to Jon on his official Twitter, and he may just find a way to grant your wish!
As always, stay tuned to CTU, and I’ll make sure to keep you guys updated on the official status of ‘G.I. Joe 2‘ (whatever it’s going to be called and where ever they end up filming)!

NEWS FLASH: New Release Date for the Sequel to Channing Tatum’s ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra’
March 6, 2011
Fans are constantly asking about the status of ‘G.I. Joe 2‘. Here’s a quick update on the upcoming sequel to Chan’s $300-plus million grossing action film ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘…
Paramount has announced an official release date for ‘G.I. Joe 2‘, and Box Office Mojo is reporting that the sequel will hit theaters on August 10th, 2012.
Although the production has been very tight-lipped on most of the details, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the executive producer for both ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ and ‘G.I. Joe 2‘, told MTV News last summer that they were working on the script with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (”Zombieland”), a script that Chan mentioned (in his ‘Eagle’ press tour interviews last month) he was looking forward to reading.
The production is still figuring out casting, but word on the street is that ‘Step Up 2‘ and ‘Step Up 3D‘ director Jon Chu (who just had a huge commercial success with ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’) may be helming the highly anticipated sequel.
Stay tuned to CTU, and I’ll make sure to keep you guys updated on the official status of ‘G.I. Joe 2‘!

RUMOR OR REEL?: Channing Tatum’s ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel Secures a Director
August 4, 2010
As we’ve seen in the ‘Twilight’ franchise, there is no guarantee, for a multitude of reasons, that each film in the series will have the same director (or even the same actors), but the stars seemed to have aligned for ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ director Stephen Sommers…
TheWrap is exclusively reporting that Sommers (’The Mummy’, ‘Van Helsing’, ‘Tarzan’) will return to direct Paramount’s sequel to Chan’s $300-plus million grossing action film.
Back in April, MTV News caught up with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the executive producer for both ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ and ‘G.I. Joe 2‘. Although Bonaventura was tight-lipped on details, he did confirm that they were working on the script with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (”Zombieland”). An insider told TheWrap that “the studio is happy with the draft they turned in”.
He also mentioned that Paramount is very excited about getting the movie going, and they’ll possibly begin filming in the Spring of 2011. They’re hoping for a Summer 2012 release.

CHANNING TATUM MOVIE BYTES: ‘G.I. Joe 2′ and ‘Eagle of the Ninth’ Update
May 27, 2010
As Channing Tatum prepares for his comedic role in Ron Howard and Vince Vaughn’s comedy ‘Cheaters‘ (which he starts filming next month), I want to share a few bits of news about Chan’s upcoming films ‘G.I. Joe 2‘ and ‘Eagle of the Ninth‘. Check out today’s Movie Bytes to get the latest scoop. Enjoy!!!
G.I. JOE 2
Fans are constantly asking about G.I. Joe 2, the upcoming sequel to Chan’s $300-plus million grossing action film G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. Recently, MTV News caught up with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the executive producer for both G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe 2.
Although Bonaventura didn’t give a ton of details, he did tell MTV News that they are currently working on the script with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (”Zombieland”). He also mentioned that Paramount is very excited about getting the movie going, and they’ll possibly begin filming in the Spring of 2011. They’re also hoping for a Summer 2012 release.
EAGLE OF THE NINTH
Back in February, we got a glimpse of Channing Tatum in his Roman drama ‘The Eagle of the Ninth‘ when the trailer played before ‘Dear John‘, and the film also had at least one test screening in Paramus, New Jersey on May 6th. Beyond that and the release of a few promotional/fan/set photos from the film, we haven’t had a ton of updates on the film…until today that is.
Focus Features officially announced a new release date for Channing Tatum’s Roman drama ‘The Eagle of the Ninth‘. Instead of the original September 24th release date, ‘The Eagle of the Ninth‘ will now open nationwide on Friday, February 25th, 2011. So it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer to see Chan in his full on Roman glory, but I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait!
The Roman epic adventure, currently in post-production, is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald and produced by Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee Duncan Kenworthy. Jeremy Brock, BAFTA Award-winning screenwriter of Mr. Macdonald’s 2006 film The Last King of Scotland, has adapted the screenplay from Rosemary Sutcliff’s classic novel of the same name.
‘The Eagle of the Ninth‘ is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (played by Channing) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Jamie Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian’s Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the lost legion’s golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. The movie also stars Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong, and Tahar Rahim.
