Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and Reid Carolin Sign Production Deal with Relativity Media
December 13, 2010
Recently, Relativity Media (who has worked with Channing Tatum for his films ‘Fighting‘,’Dear John‘, and ‘Haywire‘) announced they closed a production deal with Chan, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and their producing partner Reid Carolin under a currently unnamed production company.
The two year production pact gives Relativity the opportunity to partner with Chan, Jenna, and Reid’s new production company on projects they develop. Here’s what Relativity’s President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley, had to say about the freshly inked deal…
“Channing is an immensely talented actor and incredibly enthusiastic about finding material to produce with Reid. We look forward to working with the two of them over the coming years.
Although it’s not a part of the Relativity deal, the new production company’s first project is ‘Ten Year‘, which is currently in pre-production and will start filming in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area this Saturday through January 2011. The high school reunion drama is directed by Jamie Linden (writer of ‘Dear John‘ and ‘We Are Marshall’) and stars Chan, Jenna, Kate Mara, Brian Geraghty, Chris Pratt and Justin Long.
The new production company’s other projects in development include ‘Ion‘, ‘The Contortionists Handbook‘, ‘What’s Left of Us‘ and ‘11 Minutes’. Reid Carolin developed and associate produced Chan’s film ‘Stop-Loss‘ and most recently produced ‘Earth Made of Glass‘, a documentary about Rwandan President Paul Kagame, with Deborah Scranton, Chan, and Jenna. The film just received a nomination for a 2011 Producer’s Guild Award for Best Documentary Theatrical Motion Picture.
Signing a production deal like this is a HUGE achievement in the entertainment industry, so I want to congratulate Chan, Jenna, and Reid on such an incredible achievement!!!

CASTING NEWS: Channing Tatum Joins Catherine the Great Biopic ‘Love and Honor’
November 9, 2010
Just to catch any new CTU readers up…Since January, Channing Tatum has successfully released his romantic drama ‘Dear John‘, wrapped on four new films (Steven Soderbergh’s action-revenge spy thriller ‘Knockout‘, Dito Montiel’s crime thriller ‘Son of No One‘, Vince Vaughn’s comedy ‘The Dilemma‘ and ‘The Vow‘ with Rachel McAdams), shot the film shorts ‘Morgan & Destiny’s Eleventeenth Date‘ and ‘Ten Year‘ and reshoots for Kevin MacDonald’s Roman drama ‘The Eagle‘, executive produced and premiered the political documentary ‘Earth Made of Glass‘ at the Tribeca Film Festival, signed on to the inspirational detox drama ‘What’s Left of Us‘, the next ‘Avatar’ (aka ‘Ion‘), and the crime drama ‘The Contortionists Handbook‘, and is producing the high school reunion film ‘Ten Year‘ with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum.
I can now confirm that the hardworking actor and budding producer has added yet another role to his continually growing list of projects…
Earlier this week NY Mag’s The Vulture reported that Randall Wallace, the writer-director of Disney’s ‘Secretariat‘, is currently at the American Film Market to find potential financiers for an indie drama about Russian czarina Catherine the Great called ‘Love and Honor’. Wallace’s screenplay is based on his 2005 work of historical fiction with the same name.
Chan will play a Virginia cavalryman named Kieran Selkirk dispatched by Benjamin Franklin to Russia to pose as a British mercenary two years before America’s Declaration of Independence.
I hear that Catherine the Great’s roll “will be played by a beautiful, very strong and confident young woman with some certain-to-be SULTRY scenes” and according to The Vulture…
Tatum offers his services as a swordsman to Catherine, who’s busily fighting against the Cossacks, though his real intention is to win her affections and convince her not to send the 20,000 Russian soldiers Britain has requested to suppress the (ahem!) coming American insurrection.
Here’s the synopsis for “Love and Honor: A Novel” via Amazon
…
Virginia cavalryman Kieran Selkirk is summoned to a clandestine meeting in the winter of 1774. There he finds none other than Benjamin Franklin, who reveals the brilliant soldier’s assignment: He is to travel to Russia disguised as a British mercenary and convince Catherine the Great not to join the British in their war with America. It is not a quest for the weak of heart, for to succeed, Selkirk must survive savage terrain, starving wolves, secret assassins, marauding Cossacks, a court of seductive young women, and even a dramatic romantic face-off with the legendary Tsarina herself.
A little birdy told me that the book is phenomenal, so it’s now been added to my Kindle wish list. The inside scoop (which is what I know you’re all here for) is that the book was presented to Chan several years ago, and he’s been in love with it ever since! I’m also told that Chan’s love of the movie ‘Brave Heart‘ (also written by Randall) didn’t hurt either.
According to the Vulture, an offer has already been extended to Anne Hathaway to play the part of Beatrice, an attendant to a princess in Catherine’s court and Chan’s character’s love interest in the film.
The entire Tatum crew is extremely hopeful and excited about this project coming back into play, so let’s all keep our fingers crossed! And as always…CONGRATS to Chan on the new role!!!

NEWS FLASH | Channing Tatum to Produce and Star in ‘Ion’ — Fox’s next ‘Avatar’?
June 24, 2010
It’s been almost a WHOLE week since the last new movie announcement for Channing Tatum, so we were LONG overdue. OK, I kid, I kid!!!
But what isn’t a joke is that THR’s Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Chan has been attached to yet another film, his second in less than week and his fourth in the past 3 months.
Four months ago,’Dear John‘ (which has made well over $100 million worldwide) was the first film to beat ‘Avatar‘ at the box office and now THR is reporting that Chan is attached to a new film that is being touted as Twentieth Century Fox’s next ‘Avatar‘. The new romantic, sci-fi film is called ‘Ion’ and here’s what they have to say about it…
“You can thank “Avatar” for Hollywood’s resurgent interest in sci-fi. Right now Fox, though its label Fox 2000, is getting ready to bet on sci-fi again and is the lead contender to pick up an original spec script by Will Dunn titled “Ion,” which is generating interest from several studios. Channing Tatum is attached to star in what is labeled a sci-fi romantic epic, with Ridley and Tony Scott attached to produce. The plot revolves around a man who travels to different Earths and dimensions in order to find his reincarnated lover. Execs are using the magic word — “Avatar” — to describe the scope and otherworldly elements of the script. “Ion” actually made the rounds last year but didn’t take. In the post-”Avatar” Hollywood, however, the script is generating renewed interest. It attracted the interest of the Scott brothers, who helped develop the script further, which then brought in Tatum, who could be one of Hollywood’s next leading men. The whole package raised the mercury even higher.”
What THR didn’t mention (and I can exclusively share with CTU Readers) is that Chan is not only attached to star in ‘Ion’, but he and his production partner Reid Carolin (’Stop-Loss‘, ‘Earth Made of Glass‘) are also producing the film through their 33andOut shingle, which is a HUGE accomplishment for them. As you can imagine, Chan is really excited about this project, although its going to be a while before it really gets started.
Deadline Hollywood had this to add…
“The spec in play is Ion, a Will Dunn scifi script that has Channing Tatum attached, with Scott Free producing. Fox 2000 (Scott Free’s home studio) has made an offer, but other studios are circling…It would be the first sale for Dunn, a British scribe, who has spent the past half year honing the material with input from Scott Free and Tatum.”
I feel like I’m starting to sound like a broken record as I extol Chan’s amazingly hot career, but honestly, talented people who work hard and stay grateful and humble deserve this kind of success. I’m so glad to see it happening for Chan so quickly. CONGRATS to CHAN, REID, and 33andOUT!!!

Why ‘What’s Left of Us’ Author Knows Channing Tatum is Right for His Movie…
June 11, 2010
At France’s Cannes Film Festival a couple of weeks ago, London-based Berkeley Square Films announced that Channing Tatum will star in Richie Farrell’s inspirational detox drama ‘What’s Left of Us‘, a hard-hitting chronicle of seven excruciating days in detox for a heroin addict.
Farrell, a former addict who directed the HBO documentary ‘High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell,’ will adapt his own gritty novel “What’s Left of Us“, which is based on his true story.
The author, who fought his way back from a deep drug addiction to land on both bookstore shelves and the silver screen, was recently interviewed by the The Cabinet Press and shared how the film came to fruition and why he feels Chan is perfect for the role.
Farrell tells The Cabinet Press that Chan was looking for a dark role, and after reading the book and meeting with the author to discuss ideas in New York City (where he was filming the crime thriller ‘Son of No One‘), they decided to make the movie.
Not surprisingly, Chan’s dark turn in the 2006 independent film ‘A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints‘ helped convince Farrell that the actor is much more than just another pretty face…
“Chan is a brilliant businessman and a sincere, wonderful, young actor. In fact, actors who acquire A-List status in today’s Hollywood are brilliant…Channing Tatum’s characters to date have been roles where, “He’s the hunky, kind of dumb guy, and all the girls love him. He’s got the dimples and the smiles and the eyes, and he’s really good looking.” But Channing Tatum is much larger than those roles. And by taking on the role of Richie Farrell in “What’s Left of Us,” Channing is going to prove to the world that he’s not only good looking, but he’ll probably become one of the best actors of this generation.”
The author also adds…
“After meeting with him, it was like we’re brothers…I’ll let him explain it, but he’s got his own story that’s similar. He feels connected to the story…I think he can do it; I’m convinced he can do it.”
The movie is being made independently on a $7 million budget, and Farrell is hoping that filming will begin in March in Lowell, Massachusetts. Farrell is also excited about not working with a studio, because he feels it gives the production “freedom…We can make another ‘Requiem for a Dream’ if we want.”

NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum to Play a Recovering Addict in New Indie Drama
May 19, 2010
For those who are keeping score…this year Channing Tatum has already promoted and released the romantic drama ‘Dear John‘, wrapped on two new films (Steven Soderbergh’s action-revenge spy thriller ‘Knockout‘ and Dito Montiel’s crime thriller ‘Son of No One‘ with Al Pacino, Ray Liotta, and Katie Holmes), shot reshoots for Kevin MacDonald’s Roman drama ‘Eagle of the Ninth‘, executive produced and premiered the political documentary ‘Earth Made of Glass‘ at the Tribeca Film Festival and is prepping to take a long-awaited comedic turn in Ron Howard and Vince Vaughn’s ‘Cheaters‘, which he films next month. Not too bad, considering we’ve barely made it through the month of May.
As if all that wasn’t enough, the busy actor’s dance card just got a little more crowded…
Earlier this week, the newly formed, London-based Berkeley Square Films announced at the Cannes Film Festival that Chan will star in Richie Farrell’s inspirational detox drama ‘What’s Left of Us’, a hard-hitting chronicle of seven excruciating days in detox for a heroin addict.
Farrell, a former addict who directed the HBO documentary ‘High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell,‘ will adapt his own gritty novel “What’s Left of Us“, which is based on his true story.
Boston.com interviewed Farrell last year. In the article we learn how the author managed to fight his way back from a deep drug addiction to land on both bookstore shelves and the silver screen. You can read a snippet of the story below to get an idea of what kind of character Chan will be portraying…
Richard Farrell looks uneasy, gripping the steering wheel with both hands as he pulls up to St. Patrick’s Church. “This street was all dealers,’’ he says, stopping the car in the shadow of the granite steeple. “I scored two [expletive] bags of dope right here before giving the eulogy at my father’s funeral.’’ Farrell is well acquainted with the dark corners of the Mill City, where he was born and, more than once, almost died of an overdose. A former heroin addict, Farrell has put his grim experiences to good use, directing an award-winning documentary, “High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell,’’ and writing a gritty new memoir.
The book - whose title, “What’s Left of Us,’’ is tattooed in tiny script on the author’s left bicep - is Farrell’s story of getting straight with other rogues at a dreary state-run detox. It’s already drawn interest from filmmakers attracted to the book’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’’-like quality. “I had no ambition when I was growing up here, none,’’ says Farrell, driving past his childhood home in the working-class neighborhood known as The Acre. “It’s amazing I’m still here.’’ Life didn’t figure to be easy for Farrell, who barely survived his own birth 52 years ago. He came out feet first and, deprived of oxygen for several minutes, suffered brain damage that weakened the right side of his body.
Farrell’s domineering and abusive father, an English teacher at Lowell High School, was embarrassed by his son’s limp. “No kid of his was going to be a cripple,’’ says Farrell, who was forced to lift weights, run, and stretch everyday. The terrifying relationship with his father is the centerpiece of Farrell’s memoir, and it was one of the reasons he became an addict. He tried heroin for the first time the day his dad died in 1984. (He was already hooked on painkillers after a series of knee surgeries.) Three years later, at the age of 31, Farrell and a couple of his junkie friends huddled in an abandoned mill building and tried to kill themselves by overdosing.
Farrell’s heroin addiction nearly killed him. Luckily, he lived to write about it, and now Chan has been given this incredible opportunity to bring his story to life. Knowing how well Chan portrayed the troubled and violent Antonio in 2006’s critically-acclaimed and award-winning drama ‘A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints‘, I have no doubt that this film has amazing potential.
BIG CONGRATS to Chan on landing yet another awesome new role!!!

CASTING NEWS: Channing Tatum to Star in ‘The Darkness’
August 12, 2009
Channing Tatum has a ton of potential projects in the works, and the horror film site Bloody Disgusting just reported some casting news on a new one. I read this particular news item when they first posted it on July 28th, but wanted to confirm it before I reported it to you all.
I have now confirmed that Chan has indeed signed on to star in ‘The Darkness’, the latest film from The Pang Brothers Danny Pang Fat and Oxide Pang Chun who directed the Asian and English remakes of ‘The Eye’ and ‘Bangkok Dangerous’. Like Chan’s current movie, ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘, the film will also be based on a comic book adaption.
“The Darkness” comic series was created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis and David Wohl, under the Top Cow Productions banner. Ironically, Top Cow is the same comic book company that’s associated with Jenna Dewan’s 2010 action film ‘Magdelena‘.
Bloody Disgusting says that Chan will play Jackie Estacado, a hitman who “was targeted for assassination by the don of the New York mafia, ‘Uncle’ Paulie. He finds his body possessed by ‘the Darkness,’ a malevolent spirit that has inhabited his family for several generations, with the benefit of giving Jackie supernatural powers that feed off the dark.”
Although the film is currently in the very early stages of development and does not have a release date yet, I still want to say congrats to Chan on landing yet another role!
NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum Chosen for Dito Montiel’s ‘The Brotherhood of the Rose’
January 30, 2009
One of Channing’s favorite directors to work with is Dito Montiel. Dito directed Channing in 2006’s ‘A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints‘ and his upcoming action film ‘Fighting‘ that will be released in theaters on April 24, 2009 and some may even say Chan’s somewhat of a muse to the talented director.
At this point, Chan and Dito almost have a sort of shorthand when they communicate on set, and the two work together extremely well. That’s why I was happy to read on Variety.com that Channing Tatum has been chosen to star in a new movie called ‘The Brotherhood of the Rose‘, an adaptation of the David Morrell novel for Warner Brothers.
Montiel is re-writing an earlier draft of the script from Adam Cozad and will also direct the film. Basil Iwanyk (’Clash of the Titans‘) is producing the movie through his Thunder Road banner.
The story is a cat-and-mouse espionage tale about two orphans raised by a top CIA agent to become assassins. When their operations go awry, they find themselves on the run, caught in a conspiracy and hunted by the most dangerous spies in the world. The book was previously adapted as a two-part NBC miniseries in 1989 that starred David Morse, Peter Strauss, Connie Sellecca, and Robert Mitchum.
Industry folk are saying the project signifies the fact that Warner Brothers is trying to start their own Bourne-style spy thriller franchise, so I feel this new role definitely moves Channing up yet another notch on the action hero meter.
‘The Brotherhood of the Rose‘ is currently set to hit theaters some time in 2010.
Congrats to Chan for landing yet another great role!!! He has so many movies in the works that it can be hard to keep track. Fans can CLICK HERE to get a complete list of his past, current, and future projects.
