VIDEOS OF THE WEEK: Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s Dizzy Feet Interview & Missy Elliott Video
December 1, 2009
In today’s Videos of the Week, we have a new interview that ‘Step Up‘ gals Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Briana Evigan, and Sharni Vinson (who you see in the above photo taken by director Jon M. Chu with Channing Tatum in the background) did backstage with Chris Trondsen of Pacific Rim Video at the Dizzy Feet Foundation charity gala. Nichelle Thrower of the dance crew We Are Heroes also joins in the conversation before the girls go onstage at the Koday Theater in Hollywood to perform this past Sunday. Check out the new video interview below…
When Jenna started her career as a professional dancer, she worked for various famous performers such as ‘N Sync, Diddy (or whatever he’s calling himself these days), Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, Pink, Missy Elliott, Ricky Martin, and Janet Jackson, just to name a few. Thanks to a tweeter with an eagle eye who spotted Jenna in Missy Elliott’s “Gossip Folks” video, you can check her out in the video below. Enjoy!
Thanks to @kirrea for pointing out that Jenna was in the Missy Elliott video and to @partypooper101 for sending me the Youtube version of the music video!
If you have a favorite video that you would like me to consider, send a link to the video to votw@channingtatumunwrapped.com and tell me why you like it. I will post it and your explanation on the blog.

September 28, 2009
As far as I know (although I keep hoping they’ll surprise us), neither Channing Tatum nor Jenna Dewan are in the third installment of the extremely popular ‘Step Up‘ franchise they started in 2006. Regardless, I’ll be one of the first in line with glasses in hand to see ‘Step Up 3D‘ when it hits theaters next August.
‘Step Up 3D‘ takes the dance battling global; The story follows a passionate, tight-knit group of street dancers (featuring Rick Malambri and Sharni Vinson with the returning actors Adam G. Sevani and Alyson Stoner) who find themselves pitted against the world’s best breakdancers in a high-stakes showdown.
I just added a ton of photos from the set of the film to the CTU Photo Gallery. Also, Entertainment Tonight did a behind the scenes report for the first-ever 3D dance drama this past summer. If you missed it, you can watch the video below to get the latest scoop on the film:

‘Step Up 3D’ News, Casting Call, and Set Photos from Director Jon M. Chu
June 13, 2009
We’ve been getting a lot of visitors to CTU lately looking for info on ‘Step Up 3D‘. Although I think there’s very little chance (pretty much 0%) that Channing Tatum will be in the third installment of the ‘Step Up‘ franchise that he started with Jenna Dewan in 2006, I still follow the progress of ‘Step Up 3D‘ as it films in New York City (and Paris later in the year) via the official Twitter of director Jon M. Chu.
You can check out a slideshow of director Jon M. Chu and producer Adam Shankman’s behind-the-scenes photos from the set below…
The movie will be filming in New York through July and is holding an extras casting call today as I type this post. I just learned that Comer & Gallucio Casting has organized the casting call, and they are looking for all types and ethnicities ages 18 and over. Some specific types they are looking for include the following…
- People who can portray hip hop types
- People who know how to tango and/or have hip hop dance experience
- People with tattoos, visible piercings, funky hairstyles, hipster types, skateboarders, old school roller skaters, 18-24 year olds, college students, and more!
As I previously mentioned, the casting call is today (Saturday, June 13th). SAG members were seen from 9:30am - 10:30am (Compensation: $130.00/8hrs) and non union extras will be seen from 11:00am - 4:30pm (Compensation: $80.00/10hrs) at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle on Columbus Avenue at 60th Street in New York City. You should come dressed to be photographed.
If you want to know more about the storyline of the film, you’ll find it in my previous post, and get the latest behind-the-scenes scoop strait from director Jon M. Chu by subscribing to his official Twitter and Youtube channel.

NEWS FLASH: ‘Step Up 3D’ Starts Filming TODAY with Newcomers & Old Favorites
May 11, 2009

Although I think there’s, sadly, very little chance we’ll be seeing Channing Tatum in the third installment of the ‘Step Up‘ franchise that he started with Jenna Dewan in 2006, I still continue to follow the progress of ‘Step Up 3D‘ and often get questions about the movie from fans.
As I previously posted, director Jon M. Chu and the production crew have been working hard for months to prepare for the 3D movie that’s going to film on location in both New York City and Paris, France.
Jon has been tweeting about their progress onTwitter where he posted news about their long days scouting locations, how dance warriors/choreographers Hihat, Dave Scott, Rich & Tone, Jamal Sims have even more of his respect now, and his experience in a test shoot with 3D glasses are on his head. He even tweeted to let us know that they wrapped up the final day of rehearsals last Friday so they can start shooting principal photography today.
I also found the cute photo above with Jon and his adorable dog Monster (who looks quite at home in his own chair on set) with returning stars Alyson Stoner who reprises her role as Camille (aka Chan’s foster sister from ‘Step Up‘) and Adam Sevani who comes back in his role as Moose from ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘.
Here’s a storyline that I found on one of the casting sites for the film that will start filming today in New York City…
When the Maryland School of the Arts (MSA) goes to Paris for an international dance competition, one of the dancers - Moose - misses his flight back to Baltimore. He soon makes friends with an American away from home and a beautiful French sophisticate. They introduce Moose to the red-hot Parisan underground dance scene, and before long he is wowing the local dancers with his unique moves as they prepare for an underground dance competition. With time running out before the big event and their routine stolen by a rival crew, Moose turns to his loyal MSA crew in Baltimore for help. Can Moose, the MSA crew and the French crew pull together a new dance number at the last minute? And will it be good enough to beat the world’s best street dancers?
In addition to veterans Adam and Alyson, the film also stars newcomers Sharni Vinson as Natalie, Rick Malambri as Luke, and Stephen Boss in the role of Jason.
Get the latest behind-the-scenes scoop strait from director Jon M. Chu by subscribing to his official Twitter and Youtube channel. Jon’s already posted a pic from today’s shoot on Twitter.

CHANNING TATUM MOVIE BYTES: ‘Public Enemies’, ‘Step Up 3D’, ‘Pinkville’ and ‘G.I. Joe’
March 23, 2009
I found a few bits of news about Channing Tatum’s films ‘Public Enemies‘ , ‘Step Up 3-D‘ (not officially his film, but news regardless), ‘Pinkville‘, and ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ this past week. Check out today’s Channing Tatum Movie Bytes to get the latest scoop. Enjoy!!!
PUBLIC ENEMIES
Entertainment Weekly declared the trailer for Channing Tatum’s real-life crime drama ‘Public Enemies‘ a “must see” last week. Here’s what they had to say about the highly-anticipated film…
- “Hat rakishly tilted, machine gun at the ready, Johnny Depp looks like he’s having a blast playing bank robber John Dillinger in the Michael Mann drama, also starring Christian Bale and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard. Between this and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, we’ve got two gritty period shoot-’em-ups to look forward to this year.”
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, CLICK HERE to check it out now!!! Also, at Ain’t It Cool News we get another couple of reviews of the film. Here’s a highlight from one of the reviewers…
- “Had the chance to see a very early screening of Michael Mann’s Public Enemies tonight and wanted to share some thoughts with you all. A few spoilers here so tread with caution.First off, it’s incredibly entertaining. Unlike other biopics, this one drops you right into story. No flashbacks of Johnny Dillinger extorting kids on the playground, the movie begins with Johnny Depp’s Dillinger and his crew knocking over a bank with precision and style. On the other side of the law, Christian Bale’s G-Man Purvis starts the movie hunting down Pretty Boy Floyd. It’s an interesting and welcome approach. Here’s a cop, here’s a robber. Go.
- Along the way, Dillinger picks up a girlfriend (the beautiful Marion Cotillard) and Purvis is appointed the head of the task force by J Edgar Hoover (a more clothed, and less blue Billy Crudup.) The next two plus hours is basically focused on Dillinger and how he made his name. As I mentioned, I found it very entertaining…70% of the movie is Dillinger robbing, shooting, and charming his way across Iowa and Illinois.”
‘Public Enemies‘ is set to hit US theaters on July 1, 2009.
STEP UP 3-D
I knew that watching all of those episodes of Scoobie Doo, Matlock, and Murder She Wrote would pay off one day. I was able to crack the case of the un-named dance movie that director Jon M. Chu mentions in a video he released on his Youtube channel last week. Here’s how I broke the case wide open (as they say)…
Via a tweet from Production Weekly last month, I learned that ‘Step Up 3-D‘ is scheduled to start filming in May in New York City. Since we know that ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘ director Jon M. Chu, break out star Adam Sevani, and dancer/actress Alyson Stoner (Chan’s foster sister from ‘Step Up‘) will be returning in the third installment of the extremely popular ‘Step Up‘ films, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that ‘Step Up 3-D‘ is the un-named dance movie that Jon is referring to in his video. Plus, he also confirms the fact that he’s currently working on his next film in New York. Honestly, I really didn’t even have to pull out my trusty detective kit for this one.
Jon is looking for unique dancers to audition by submitting videos via Youtube, and the deadline is this Wednesday (March 25th), so dancers should get their submissions in fast if you want a chance to be a part of ‘Step Up 3-D‘! You can watch Jon’s video below to learn all about the auditions…
It’s my understanding that ‘Step Up 3-D‘ is supposed to hit an IMAX theater near you some time in 2010.
PINKVILLE
In a recent MTV interview director Oliver Stone eluded to the fact that the ‘Pinkville‘ project that Channing is slated to star in, but was postponed around the time of the infamous 2007 writer’s strike, may not be as “dead” as previously thought. You can read Stone’s response below that gives fans of the yet-to-be-made film a little hope…
- “One project that Stone is sticking by is “Pinkville,” a feature about the 1968 My Lai massacre in Vietnam, which was set to film with Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson and Cam Gigandet until the writers’ strike interrupted development in late 2007. “‘Pinkville’ is not dead,” Stone said of what would be his fourth film about that war. “I own it. I could activate it again. I don’t know if the time is right now with the Iraq War still going on, but I love that project and it’s an important one. My Lai is a forgotten piece of history that’s crucial to remember. You never know, these things come alive.”
G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA
Last week, Channing Tatum’s ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ had another screening, but this time Paramount Pictures showed a five-minute “sizzle reel” of footage to journalists, exhibitors, and executives in Sydney, Australia. Below, you can read a recap of the footage shown via the Australian movie news site Dark Horizons…
- “Until now the only footage screened from the film has been the thirty-second Superbowl spot. While repeating some scenes from that, this expanded on what was shown and combined finished effects with animatics and live-action footage. The footage established the premise that an international military task force has been setup to combat global threats. The base of operations seems to be a sandy desert somewhere with one of the early effects shots showing a secret circular hangar bay door opening for an advanced Harrier-like jet to land.
- Later on we see two lumps racing under the sand and disturbing a caravan of camels. The main thrust of the story in the film is that the COBRA organization have taken microscopic robot nanites, originally developed as a way to cure cancer, and have been able to reprogram them to do almost anything. A demonstration involves the launch of a missile containing some nanites that have been programmed to eat metal. The missile is fired from some sort of underwater vehicle in The Seine, it streaks across Paris and hits the Eiffel tower. The tower is eaten away, bits of the lower arches start falling off as people scatter, and the tower itself collapses.Destro (Christopher Eccleston) talks about the plan and is seen operating from COBRA’s own secret base which is a huge underwater facility under the Arctic ice.
- Much of the visual effects footage, albeit mostly incomplete, showed what looked like a climactic attack by GIJOE’s forces against this base - think “Thunderball” meets “Seaquest” with lots of sleek looking CG submersibles attacking similar vehicles and/or the giant metal spires that make up the various wings of the facility.Another big portion of the footage is devoted to the body armor worn by the good guys. The body suit essentially covers everything but their face (which is covered in retractable glass/plastic) and is said to enhance a person’s strength, speed and agility. We briefly glimpse the CG heads up display on the inside of each helmet as well.Cut to a truly bizarre scene in Paris where two people (Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans I think) in the suits are running through the streets as European luxury cars with retractable guided missile launchers built into them fire rockets at the duo. The two guys jump, flip, dive through a train, get flung off the back of a truck that gets blown up, etc. Later on there’s a scene with The Baroness (Sienna Miller) on top of a a building’s massive glass ceiling as Tatum’s character lands on the far side. As he runs towards her, she sets off some device and the ceiling explodes upwards in a massive shower of glass that sends him tumbling.
- While we glimpse Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow in the footage a few times, there was no sign or even hint of Cobra Commander as far as I can recall.”

CHANNING TATUM MOVIE BYTES: ‘Fighting’, ‘Dear John’, ‘Step Up 3-D’, ‘Guide’, and ‘G.I. Joe’
November 12, 2008
I have found a lot more news all over the internet about Channing Tatum’s films. Check out today’s Channing Tatum Movie Bytes to get the latest scoop. Enjoy!!!
FIGHTING
In ‘Fighting‘, Channing plays Sean Arthur, a young ticket scalper that is introduced to the world of underground street fighting. Although the date has shifted a few times, we have a new release date for the action drama, and I have a feeling that this one might stick. The film is now scheduled to release on April 24, 2009, which is just a couple of days before Chan’s 29th birthday.
Kevin Misher, Misher Films helmer and one of the movie’s executive producers, has told me that he’s extremely excited about the movie. I’m totally excited too, because both he and the NBC Universal team who is marketing ‘Fighting‘ have confirmed that Channing Tatum Unwrapped will be kept in the loop on any future news about this project, so stay tuned.
DEAR JOHN
The cast continues to grow over on the set of Channing Tatum’s romantic drama ‘Dear John‘, Lasse Hallstrom’s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel.
Last month, CarolinaAutism.org announced that a 6 year old Carolina Autism client has been chosen to star in ‘Dear John‘. They do not give his name, but confirmed that he will be playing the part of Alan. They said that the director chose a child with autism to play the part in a daring statement about authenticity and the ability of people with autism to work and participate in the entertainment industry. A person by the name of Phil Blevins, who works for Carolina Autism, has been retained to consult to the production on matters related to autism spectrum disorders.
A few days ago, we also learned from the Hollywood Reporter that the production has added veteran actor Richard Jenkins (’The Visitor’, ‘Burn After Reading’, “Six Feet Under”) to their cast. Jenkins will play the father of the young soldier John Tyree (Channing Tatum) who meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah Lynn Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), while on military leave.
Finally, Scott Porter (”Friday Night Lights”), who is rumored to be playing the character of Randy, recently mentioned in a TV Guide interview that Chris Cooper (’The Kingdom’, ‘Breach’) has also signed on to the cast, but did not mention what specific role he is playing.
‘Dear John‘, the epic love story that Chan is filming in South Carolina threw December, will be released in theaters some time around October 2009.
STEP UP 3-D
At the 2008 American Film Market (AFM), ComingSoon.net got their hands on some initial poster artwork for the highly anticipated ‘Step Up 3-D‘. AFM is where over 8,000 industry leaders converge in Santa Monica for eight days of deal-making, screenings, seminars, red carpet premieres, networking and parties. Fans can click on the image on the left to view the new poster in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped Photo Gallery.
Although (in my humble opinion) I don’t think that Channing will be making an appearance in the third chapter of the extremely popular ‘Step Up’ franchise, based on an announcement producer Adam Shankman made on the show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, we do know for sure that ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘ director Jon M. Chu and break out star Adam Sevani will be returning in ‘Step Up 3-D‘. I can’t wait to see the film that is set to hit theaters some time in 2009 or 2010.
A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS
Channing Tatum’s critically-acclaimed and award-winning drama ‘A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints‘ is being re-released on DVD next year in the US and Canada. Fans will be able to purchase the new A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (Steelbook) edition of the film on February 3, 2009, but you can get more details and pre-order on Amazon today.
G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA
I’m not sure if this one’s real or rumor, but I hear that a teaser/trailer will be released for Channing Tatum’s highly-anticipated, live action blockbuster ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘ in the next few weeks.
The treaser (not quite a trailer, but longer than a teaser) may have a debut during the previews of Keanu Reeves’ science fiction remake ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still‘ when it opens in US theaters on December 12, 2008, so fans should be on the look out for it. ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘ is scheduled to hit US theaters on August 7, 2009.
RUMOR OR REEL?: Jon M. Chu Will Direct Disney’s ‘Step Up 3-D’!!!!
February 27, 2008
I am extremely happy to say that this one is “REEL”!!! Because of the phenomenal success of Channing Tatum’s ‘Step Up‘ and ‘Step Up 2: The Streets‘, Disney has already decided to greenlight a third film called ‘Step Up 3-D’! You heard me right people…parts of the movie will actually be filmed in 3-D!!!!
Jon M. Chu, the insanely talented director of ‘Step Up 2‘, contacted me to let me know he is currently in negotiations to direct ‘Step Up 3-D’. After seeing what he did with ‘Step Up 2‘, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the negotiations work out, and we get to see another Jon Chu movie on the big screen soon. He’s an extremely cool guy and very passionate about his projects and that passion translates well on screen.
Even though he’s not officially directing the movie yet, here’s what Jon has to say about ‘Step Up 3-D’:
“The MOST AMAZING DANCE MOVIE EVER and the FIRST 3D DANCE MOVIE since Michael Jackson’s Captain EO. If you thought Step up 2 The Streets was explosive…this will knock you straight out of your socks. Get ready. It’s on. Well, almost. We just have to work out our deals, which could mean anything.”
If you want to learn a little more about Jon, feel free to check out a couple of great articles in The New York Times and the Palo Alto Daily News.
Most importantly, I want everyone here at CTU to wish Jon good luck on getting this directing gig. I don’t know at this point if Channing will be a part of the new movie, but I can safely say that we all can’t wait to see ‘Step Up 3-D’ in theaters (directed by Jon. M. Chu)!!!
