Although the tattoos on Sgt. Steve Shriver (played by Channing Tatum) in ‘Stop-Loss‘ are not real, the GRUNT tattoo on his arm in the film is inspired by a very real tat worn by Chan’s good friend and veteran Keith Kurtz.
RAINEY: When you going back Steve?
SGT. STEVE SHRIVER: I’m done. Me and BK getting out. You know if I had to do it again I’d be a f*****g sniper. One shot. One kill. Let me be the faceless enemy.
Helmed by award-winning director Kimberly Peirce, ‘Stop-Loss‘ is about a veteran soldier who returns from his completed tour of duty in Iraq, only to find his life turned upside down when he is arbitrarily ordered to return to field duty by the Army. In addition to Chan, the 2008 film also stars Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
