Check Out Channing Tatum, His Pup Lulu, and Castmates on the Set of ‘Magic Mike’
September 22, 2011
As I previously posted, Channing Tatum’s movie ‘Magic Mike‘ started shooting in the Los Angeles area on September 13th. The very next day, our contest winners got an exclusive opportunity to be extras in the Steven Soderbergh-directed film and to hang out on set with Chan and his co-star Alex Pettyfer.
This week, Chan was spotted between scenes on the Los Angeles, California set of ‘Magic Mike‘ with his production partner Reid Carolin, co-stars Olivia Munn and Wendi McLendon-Covey and his assistant Kurtz. He even took a little break to walk his pup Lulu on the beach near set.
Both Reid and Kurtz will also play roles in the film, which will shoot in the Tampa, Florida area in a few weeks, before the movie wraps on principle photography in mid-October. After wrapping, a beyond busy Chan will head back to Louisiana to finish filming ‘G.I. Joe 2‘.
‘Magic Mike‘ is a story of friendship set in the world of exotic male dancing and is inspired by (but not based on) Chan’s experiences early in his career. Chan plays the main character (Mike Martingano), who mentors a young dancer played by Alex Pettyfer and teaches him how to hustle both on and off the stage at a club called Xquisite.
In addition to Chan, Olivia (Magic Mike’s love interest), Alex, and Wendi, the indie drama stars Matthew McConaughey (who plays Dallas, a retired dancer and the owner of the club), Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez, Gabriel Iglesias (the club’s DJ), Riley Keough, Cody Horn (Magic Mike’s sister), WWE wrestler Kevin Nash, and reportedly, “Breaking Bad” actress Betsy Brandt and “The Change-Up” actress Mircea Monroe as the girlfriend of Matt Bomer’s character.
‘Magic Mike‘ is produced by Chan, his producing partner Reid Carolin (who also wrote the screenplay) via their production company, Iron Horse Productions, Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs, and is helmed by Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh.
I’ll get to check out the set first hand in the next few weeks, so as always, stay tuned to CTU for all the latest scoop on ‘Magic Mike‘!

Seven Reasons to Love Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s “The Playboy Club”
September 19, 2011
Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s hour-long drama “The Playboy Club” finally hits the small screen TONIGHT on NBC at 9pm Central after “The Sing-Off”, and because she loves interacting with you all, Jenna will be live-tweeting the show on her official Twitter!!!
“The Playboy Club” is set during the political and moral upheaval of the 1960s and is centered around the voluptuous ladies of the original Chicago Playboy Club.
In addition to Jenna, the show also stars Laura Benanti, Amber Heard, Leah Renee Cudmore, Naturi Naughton, Eddie Cibrian, David Krumholtz, Jenifer Lewis, Wes Ramsey, Cassidy Freeman and Sean Maher.
The show has received great reviews from the New York Times to Us Magazine (who gives the drama 3.5 out of 4 stars) and the Wall Street Journal who says…
“The life and feel of an earlier age that comes roaring out of the action so successfully here derives from the writing—from story lines interwoven and shaped in the style of old Hollywood. There’s heartbreak, a touch of glamour, backstage show-business drama—every Bunny has her story and we’re going to get to know all of them—also sisterly warmth and plenty of jealousy. The Bunnies are an ambitious lot.”
Not that I need to convince anyone around here, but here’s a few reasons why I think you all will love Jenna’s new show “The Playboy Club”…
1) WE GET TO SEE JENNA SHAKE A TAILFEATHER…
Jenna tells PR.com…”There’s a big musical element. We just did an episode with Kenny Ortega directing which we kind of keep joking around about Glee episodes because we all sing, we all dance, and I get to do some dancing again, which I hadn’t done in awhile. Every single episode there’s a musical number. I think it will be really fun to see, and I think that also separates us from a lot of other shows.”
2) IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR…
It’s not easy being far away from home and family in Chicago, so it’s great to see that “The Playboy Club” is a pet-friendly set where Jenna brings her adorable Japanese Spitz, Meeka, a Christmas gift from hubby Channing Tatum. Check out a great article on People Pets where you get a week-in-the-life of one very lucky and loved pooch and her equally loved sister Lulu who’s back home in LA with Chan (hanging out on the set of ‘Magic Mike‘).
3) AMAZING GUEST STARS PLAY 1960′S PERFORMERS…
In addition to an amazing cast, today’s stars are also signing on to play Playboy club performers from the 1960’s. “Tina Turner” will take the stage in the first episode, Colbie Caillat will guest-star as Lesley Gore singing “It’s My Party”, Raphael Saadiq will play Sam Cooke and “The Voice” Season 1 winner Javier Colon has been cast to play a 1960’s version of Ray Charles!
4) IT’S ALL ABOUT GIRL POWER IN A TIME WHEN SOCIETY TOLD US WOMEN HAD LITTLE, OR IN MANY CASES, NONE…
Both Jenna and the Chicago Tribune have said that many of the bunnies used their jobs at the club as springboards to high-powered careers in real estate, business and broadcasting, and “at time when women didn’t have many options in the workforce, being a Bunny offered them a safe working environment and a chance to move forward in the world.”
5) THE BUNNIES EAT VEGAN, RECYCLE, AND SAVE ENERGY…
In a recent interview with the Mother Nature Network, Jenna and her co-stars Laura Benanti, Leah Renee, Naturi Naughton, and Amber Heard talked all about their eco-friendly habits. Jenna, Laura, and Leah, are the vegans in the group and have been able to find great vegan fare both on and off the Chicago set of the show. For Naturi and Amber, it’s all about recycling and saving energy. Fans can CLICK HERE to learn even more about the cast’s eco-friendly lifestyles.
6) IT’S FULL OF HISTORY AND REALLY COOL SETS…
The show’s creator, Chad Hodge, who picked playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s brain and did exhaustive research in the Playboy archives, says “It’s a big, fun, sexy, sophisticated soap…It’s got tons of music and performances. It’s a bunch of sexy characters and love stories and thriller stories—and crime and the mob.”
The Chicago Tribune had this to say about the beautiful sets that will transport us back to the 1960’s era…
“If it weren’t for the cameras, a visitor could almost believe he’s standing in the first Playboy Club, which Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner opened at 116 E. Walton St. in the 1960. But it’s actually the gorgeous set at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios on the Southwest Side, where the production makes its home. In just a few months, production designer Scott Murphy oversaw the building of three soundstages in the massive space [the club, the bunny dorm and Nick Dalton’s high-rise apartment].
The two-story set for the club includes a wood-paneled coat check area and gift shop, a game area with Barcelona chairs, a bumper pool table, a giant case full of LP records and an old stereo hi-fi. Two floating spiral staircases lead to a smaller lounge that overlooks the dining room…The magnificent space advertises the lavish sophistication of the clubs, from the Mondrian-style red, blue and yellow color-block room dividers (they match the entrance to the original, real-life club) to the giant chandelier to the back lit bar.”
7) IT’S A FUN ESCAPE TO THE PAST…
E! News says that the series “does a great job of providing viewers with an escape to the past” and Jenna tells TV Fanatic and PR.com…
“I’m proud of how we portray women. They’re not weak, they’re not victimized. We’re in control of ourselves and of the situation at all times. To have chosen to do this job says a lot about these women and their ambitious nature at the time. They are choosing to make money and to go to college. They aren’t content to just stay at home…Sometimes I want to come home, I want to sit down on my couch with a glass of wine and some food, and I want to watch a show that is sexy, fun, exciting escapism and pure joy, and just sort of release my day. I believe that’s what this show will be for Monday night. It is a character drama and there are really great storylines and really great interactions between characters. I think this first episode will be a taste of what’s to come. You do learn about all of the different characters but you don’t get too involved. [The first episode] is more like, come and experience the sixties and the Playboy Club.”
Here’s a little taste of Jenna’s character Janie…
