Way back in 2009, the New York Daily News reported that singer Rihanna would supposedly be starring in a remake of the Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner film, ‘The Bodyguard‘, which had a hugely popular soundtrack that included Houston hits like “I Will Always Love You”, “I Have Nothing” and “I’m Every Woman”.

A supposed insider also reported that the remake would be a “young and sexy take” on the film and that Chan’s name had also been thrown into the hat to take on Costner’s role.

It was a fun idea but was also a COMPLETELY false rumor that both Chan and Rihanna’s camps denied.

Fast forward to 2011 and Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Warner Brothers is going to remake the 1992 blockbuster hit about a Secret Service agent drafted to protect a singer who’s being hunted by a stalker. In the updated story, the agent will now be an Iraq war veteran who gets the bodyguard job shortly after leaving the service. Deadline reports

“He discovers that the world of Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ has made access to celebrities easier than ever, making the job more difficult than ever. The goal is to take a young female singer with global appeal and give her the platform that The Bodyguard did Houston.”

No casting announcements have been made and no one has been cast in the lead roles as far as we know, but everyone from Gather.com to People.com have already decided that Chan and Rihanna would be an “intriguing” pairing in the remake.

As far as singers go, I’m kind of liking Perez Hilton’s suggestion of Katerina Graham from “Vampire Diaries“. I think the actress/singer really could pull this off and could have a great chemistry with Chan. This may also be a good role for Leona Lewis or Jennifer Hudson.

More importantly, I want you guys to put on your casting caps. I would love to hear what you think about Chan playing the Frank Farmer role in the remake. You can quickly vote in the poll below and leave a comment on this post to suggest which actress should play in the Rachel Marron role…

8 Responses to CTU FAN POLL: Do You Want to See Channing Tatum in the Remake of ‘The Bodyguard’?

  1. Sonya says:

The Bodyguard remake,It’s gonna be most romantic movie of the century again..One to remembered of all times like “pretty woman” never bored to watch over and over and over again..also Dear John hit that record.
    Go Chan,,,Love you :)

  2. Rachel says:

I do think Chan can do Kevin’s Role. As For Whitney’s role I wouldn’t mind seeing Leona Lewis, whom would look good with Chan if he got the part, or if Jenna Chan’s wife could sing I think that would be a good fit to..

  3. crystal jeffrey-plott says:

He is perfect for the role! He is built like a bodyguard and no doubt about his acting abilities. I think it would be sweet if his wife could play Rachel, but if not her then someone with a powerful voice and beauty like whitney (good luck)

  4. Sonia says:

Hi, I think Channing would be great as a bodyguard. But the film was so successful that the new Bodyguard film would need to be very different. I mean I love the one with Kevin Cosner and I would prefer to see something completely different even if Rachel is a singer still. There aren’t so many good singers who are good actresses; I would see Jennifer Lopez or Janet Jackson maybe. Anyway whoever she will be, she will be lucky to be protected by Channing. Best of luck for the project!! Take care

  5. Lola says:

Chan can do a lot better. I truly think Channing is overqualified for a remake of the bodyguard. :) And besides, most remakes are nowhere near as good as the original one. I don’t want Channing to be a part of a movie flop.

  6. Ana says:

I like Channing. I just don’t understand the films directors need to keep remaking films that worked so well and were brilliant.
Have they run out of ideas? Or is it that they are trying to cash in again, on something that was a success?
If that’s the case, it is a shame. Actors deserve good, original stories, because they are always affected by comparisons with previous films.

  7. guilherme says:

channing in the remake of “the Bodyguard”, wow, oh my god! it´s gonna be the best movie ever! I love seeing chan in movies! he´s awesome!!! congatulation channing and I hope you get the role!! crossed fingers!!! If you don´t get the role the movie´s tottalty gonna flop!!!

  8. Myles says:

I really think Channing would be a great choice to play that role. As for Whitney’s role- I don’t like Rhianna. The only person who could come close to it is Jennifer Hudson. I think Jennifer Hudson and Channing Tatum would be a perfect match on screen for ‘The Bodyguard’ remix.
