We all know that the film industry has A LOT of perks. That’s a given. What many don’t realize is that it takes A LOT of hard work to earn said perks. One person in Tinseltown that definitely understands how to work for his perks is Channing Tatum and here’s how I know…
Since January, he’s released his romantic drama ‘Dear John‘, wrapped on two new films (Steven Soderbergh’s action-revenge spy thriller ‘Haywire‘ and Dito Montiel’s crime thriller ‘Son of No One‘), shot the film shorts ‘Morgan & Destiny’s Eleventeenth Date‘ and ‘Ten Year Reunion‘ and reshoots for Kevin MacDonald’s Roman drama ‘The Eagle‘, executive produced and premiered the political documentary ‘Earth Made of Glass‘ at the Tribeca Film Festival, filmed Ron Howard and Vince Vaughn’s comedy ‘The Dilemma‘, AND signed on to the inspirational detox drama ‘What’s Left of Us‘, the next ‘Avatar’ (aka ‘Ion‘), and the romantic drama ‘The Vow‘.
Somewhere in the middle of all of that, he makes time for Jenna, family, friends, and possibly a 5 minute power nap on every other third Tuesday. Honestly, if working was a drug, I’d be suggesting an intervention at this point. I joke, but as a fellow work-a-holic, I can’t help but admire his work ethic.
Obviously out of fear that he’ll run out of things to do, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Chan is set to star in and produce ‘The Contortionist’s Handbook’, a film adaptation of Craig Clevenger’s 2002 novel. Deadline says that Chan will play a…
“…forger who moves smoothly from one identity to the next because of a strict code of conduct that keeps him from getting caught or having to deal with his own troubled past. That gets upended when he falls for a beautiful woman with her own dark secret.”
With a script by Robin Shushan, the movie will be produced by Das Films’ Sriram Das, GreeneStreet’s John Penotti, Tim Williams and Sidney Kimmel, and Chan will also co-produce with friend and 33andOut production partner Reid Carolin.
Here’s how Publishers Weekly describes “The Contortionist’s Handbook“…
Clevenger’s debut novel is a well-crafted character study of a brilliant, damaged man who struggles with mental illness and substance abuse as he bounces in and out of prison and a series of hospitals around Los Angeles. Most of the novel takes place in the latter setting; some tense early scenes pit protagonist John Dolan Vincent against a psychiatrist known as “The Evaluator,” who probes Vincent’s psyche to see if his recent overdose of muscle relaxants was really a botched attempt to cure his migraine, as Vincent claims, or a suicide attempt. The twist is that Vincent has checked into the hospital under an assumed name; after each of his previous overdoses he has changed his identity to avoid being placed in a mental hospital. The psychiatric interview provides a decent vehicle for telling the story of Vincent’s difficult family life and his decision to use his mathematical talent to assist a murky criminal network.
Nikke Finke over at Deadline feels that “stretching into a producing role with ‘The Contortionist’s Handbook’ seems a logical progression for Tatum”. She also reported that the film won’t begin production until late 2011, because Chan is “booked solid”.
CONGRATS to Chan on getting this new role and adding yet another film to his production company’s slate!!!
