FAN ENCOUNTER: Chan Makes Time for Fans on the NYC Set of ‘Son of No One’

Channing Tatum started filming his crime thriller ‘Son of No One‘ in Queens, New York today. Reminiscent of the ‘Fighting‘ film set days where fans were running into Chan left and right on the streets of New York…I already have an awesome new fan encounter to share with everyone. As ya’ll may know by now, these are hands down my favorite posts here on CTU, and today’s is no different.
Today’s Fab Fan Encounter is a new photo AND a video of Chan being his usual fan-friendly self near the Queens, New York set of the movie. Here’s @aliceinnyc’s story…
“Channing Tatum!…I’m gonna start this one out with a little story about the first time I met Channing Tatum…There is no picture from the first time I met Channing Tatum because, unfortunately, though we posed for one outside of Regis & Kelly while he was promoting ‘Dear John’… my camera failed. My camera did not do it’s little click and save to the memory card job. So I attempted to get a picture with him the following day at Fallon but the one and only person who got a picture with him at Fallon was my friend Brian. I attempted a third time at the Apple Store in SoHo where he did a Q&A (which is available on iTunes!) with Amanda Seyfried for ‘Dear John’ but that failed too as the crowd was somewhat overwhelming…
Alas there was always hope. I knew his new film ‘Son of No One’ directed by Dito Montiel (go rent A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS right now) also starring Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, and Ray Liotta was scheduled to film in NYC and therefore knew I had another chance coming up soon. As you can see, on their very first day of filming, I had major success.
I met up with my friends around 6:30…About a half hour later I was tweeting my Blackberry battery life away when Carmen starts saying: “That’s Channing. It’s Channing. Oh my God. Lauren, it’s Channing.” I was not paying attention and by the time I looked up Channing, who had walked up the street out of nowhere with zero security or PA’s by his side, is already on the stairs of his trailer and waving at us with a big (adorable) smile. He said something along the lines of, “Hey guys, how are you?” To which Carmen and I both giggled and waved. But thank God for Carmen who quickly followed up with, “Can we take a picture with you?” No. Really. Thank God for Carmen.
Channing, sweet as ever, says: “Yeah! Sure! I just have to get dressed… I’ll be back!” And disappears into his trailer. At this moment I’m telling Carmen that no, he really doesn’t need to get dressed. He could walk outside buck ass naked and that would be a-okay with me. As we continue our giggle fit Channing comes back out within minutes, in the same clothes, and walks back down the street to another trailer (what I’m assuming is the wardrobe trailer) and disappears. Our giggle fit continues. A good ten to fifteen minutes later? Out comes Channing. This time there’s a PA on his tail but the PA is directing him back to the van that would take him back to set but we see him stop, point over at us, say something to the PA, and then come walking over. SERIOUSLY? COOLEST DUDE EVER. Most people - especially actors on a LIVE set - would have seized the opportinity to bolt into the van and never be seen again. Trust me. It’s happened to me. We were nowhere near him… we were two trailers away. He had every right to bounce. But did he? No. Why? Because he is a sweetheart. No one will ever be able to tell me otherwise. Channing Tatum is a very talented, very grateful, very fan-friendly man. My favorite type. (Swoons.)
He walks up to us and says something about how he’s got to get back to set in a few minutes but then proceeds to introduce himself. “Hi, I’m Chan.” He even asked our names and shook our hands. From here on out you’ll notice I will now refer to him as Chan - because that is how Chan introduced himself. To me. I die. This was the moment where the planned speech I had in my head about how much I loved A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, and how excited I was that he was working with Dito Montiel again was supposed to come out but didn’t. So Channing… by some chance in a cold hell you read this? A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints is hands down one of my favorite movies ever. You were amazing. And I am so excited that you are working with Dito Montiel again - and with such a fantastic cast! Anyway… we proceeded to take pictures and when it was my turn Carmen held her camera up but I handed her mine and said, “No, I don’t trust your camera.” He laughed. I made Chan laugh. Then Carmen had him sign a picture of Ann which he wrote “Happy Birthday Ann!” on and Carmen got him saying “Happy Birthday love, I love you!” on video before he bolted back to the van waiting for him so he could get back to work.
Incredible. I’m in awe.
If you ever have the chance to meet Channing Tatum… do it. Preferably in a quiet setting where there aren’t any rabid fans, photographers, or autograph sellers.
Thank you Chan!”
Not bad for day one. I can’t wait to get more stories in from fans. BIG thanks to @aliceinnyc and Carmen for the great photos, video, and story!
If you happen to run into Chan or Jenna, send your photos and fan encounter stories to fanencounters@channingtatumunwrapped.com. I will post them on the blog to share with envious fans all around the globe!

Abbiee, you don’t love Channing. Yes, he is good looking and seems like a very genuine fellow but if you think you love someone that you have never met, you have obviously never been in love before.
