New Photos of Channing Tatum’s Girlfriend Jenna Dewan at ‘Zohan’ Premiere Last Night

May 30, 2008

Based on what I’ve been told, I’m fairly certain that Channing Tatum is still filming ‘G.I. Joe‘ in the Czech Republic right now. So although both Channing and his girlfriend Jenna Dewan were invited to last night’s Los Angeles, California premiere of ‘You Don’t Mess With The Zohan‘, only Jenna was able to come out and support her good friend Emmanuelle Chriqui who stars in the Adam Sandler comedy.

The star-studded premiere was held last night at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California, and we have a ton of new photos of Jenna looking gorgeous as usual on the red carpet. You can check out some of the high quality photos below, and you will find over 40 more photos in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped Photo Gallery. Enjoy!!!

Jenna is extremely busy this year. Lifetime Television has moved up the premiere of her new movie ‘Fab Five: Texas Cheerleader Scandal‘ to Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 9pm ET/PT. You can CLICK HERE to learn more about it.

I also recently read that her upcoming romantic comedy ‘The Jerk Theory’ with ‘Step Up‘ co-star Josh Henderson is almost complete and is set to release this year. Finally, be on the lookout for the newly renamed thriller ‘Shine On‘ (aka ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Out of the Bronx’, and ‘My Life’) and the Tim Allen comedy ‘The Six Wives of Henry Lefay‘ .

As I mentioned previously on the blog, Jenna will be awarded the Limelight Award at the annual Gabriella Axelrad Education Foundation Gala Saturday night (May 31, 2008). You can CLICK HERE for all of the details if you would like to attend the event.

Stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped, and I’ll make sure to keep everyone updated on all of Jenna’s projects and appearances.

ACDC Releases New Outtakes Video and Tells M&M Cru to "Step Yo Game Up"

May 29, 2008

Director Jon M. Chu and his adorable pooch Monster from the overnight sensation ACDC have released another extremely entertaining outtake video from the dance crew’s ongoing online battle with Miley Cyrus’ M&M Cru. Here’s what Jon has to say about the new video:

“As we await the M&M “GINMORMOUS” video that they have promised…Our Adam/Chu Dance Crew Dog, Monster, speaks from the heart…and reveals some more JUICY OUTTAKES from the ACDC dance battle challenge…”

Jon recently mentioned to me and I quote…“We’re gonna get our boy back…don’t you worry ;)” Whatever plan they have cooking, I hope that it includes Jenna Dewan too. If ACDC is somehow able to steal our favorite couple Chenna away from the M&M Cru, all will be right with the world!!! No rules means NO RULES and as Jon says, CREW ASSEMBLE!!!!

Just to remind everyone, ACDC fans make sure to enter the latest Channing Tatum Unwrapped contest to win a free shirt!!!

I’m excited to let you all know that Jon was nice enough to send me another shirt, so now I’ll be giving away TWO ACDC shirts (instead of just one) to two lucky CTU readers. CLICK HERE to get more details and enter the contest on or before the May 30th deadline (thats this Friday for those without a calendar handy). You can also still go to InvisibleChildren.com to buy a shirt and all of the proceeds will be donated to the children’s charity.

Finally, stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped for the M&M Cru’s highly-anticipated dance battle response on June 10, 2008 at 7PM Pacific.

Why Director Kimberly Peirce Chose Channing Tatum for ‘Stop-Loss’

May 28, 2008

Channing Tatum’s drama ‘Stop-Loss‘, where he plays a career soldier who’s dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after completing a tour in Iraq, will be released on DVD and Blue-Ray on July 8, 2008.

From what I can tell, the ‘Stop-Loss’ DVD will include the following extras on both the US and international versions:

  • Commentary by Director Kimberly Peirce and Co-Writer Mark Richard
  • The Making Of Stop-Loss
  • A Day In Boot Camp Featurette
  • 11 Deleted Scenes

I also found an article at Moviehole.net where they interviewed ‘Stop-Loss‘ director Kimberly Peirce. In the article snippet below, she describes how and why she hired Channing for the role of SGT. Steve Shriver. My favorite part is when we learn about a very special nickname that Chan’s mom Kay used to call him when he was growing up. Get all of the details below…

“…I had a wonderful time finding Channing to play Sgt. Steve Shriver. Channing came in after a long day of auditioning. He had been in a few movies. I think one was Coach Carter, which I hadn’t seen, the others hadn’t come out. It generally doesn’t matter for me when auditioning whether I’ve seen an actor’s prior work. I like to see what they feel like and what they can do in the room.

Channing was hunky, good-looking and masculine. And he had that spark of charisma and anger and confidence that allowed him to be the guy that just might charge into that house in the combat scene to go after the insurgent who was firing on his best buddy Sergeant King (Ryan), and he could be the guy who ended up digging a ranger grave in his front yard, who shot up the wedding cards off the wedding gifts with his buddies, and who re-signed up with the military because being with his comrades and at war made more sense than being at home. Channing had all the passion, emotion and physicality we needed and talent to fully embody the role. He did break dancing for me at the end of the first audition.

Channing and I worked together a total of three times, twice in LA and once in NY before I cast him. On the final audition he told me he would do whatever it would take to perform the part. I said that was important to playing “STEVE,” since he was a believer, someone who put himself totally into what he did. We worked together for a few hours and sent the tape of our work to Scott Rudin. Scott called the studio. I called the studio. And they let us cast him. I was thrilled. He was pure physicality and charm.

On set, Channing was sheer energy, willing to try anything, go anywhere emotionally and bare himself – his vulnerability, his sense of dignity and his feelings of brotherhood for the other men. Channing is a lovely person, a wonderful actor, generous to his fellow actors, and a good friend.

At some point in production, I needed some pictures of Channing as a kid to flesh out our portrait of SGT. STEVE SHRIVER. His mother sent me a whole batch of images – him doing a kind of handstand at 3 years old, him with tons of muscles, him in football gear. He told me she called him “CHANIMAL.” Which I thought was great because I had called him “MANIMAL,” my “MAN,” “ANIMAL.”…”

Finally, I found a newly posted interview that Channing Tatum and his ‘Stop-Loss‘ co-star Ryan Phillippe did for The Big Story when they were promoting the film. You can CLICK HERE to watch the video, or you can check it out below. Enjoy!

CTU EXCLUSIVE: News on Channing Tatum’s Upcoming Drama ‘Fighting’

May 24, 2008

It was really exciting to get an update on Channing Tatum’s 2009 romantic drama ‘Dear John‘ this past week, but I have some equally exciting news about Channing’s upcoming film ‘Fighting‘ too. News you can only get here on CTU…

Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Bernice wrote me the following email that is the basis for my excitement:

First off I want to start of by saying that I love your site! I think your doing an amazing job. I want to write you a message to let you know that I saw an advanced screening of Channing’s new movie “Fighting”! He did such a great job. I also noticed that you have a photo of him from the set, your very lucky! I love love love your site! Thanks for all the updates and keeping us, all the fans up with all the news!

Sincerely ,
Bernice V.

Inside Scoop on the Screening

If you know anything about me, then you will not be surprised that I quickly put my interviewer cap on to get the goods on the screening. Bernice was nice enough to give us the inside scoop. Here’s what Bernice had to say about the first official screening of ‘Fighting‘:

Where and when did you watch the screening of Channing Tatum’s movie ‘Fighting’?
I saw the screening on May 7, 2008 in the city of Northridge in California at the Pacific Theater.

How did you get invited to the screening?
I went to the movies to watch “Maid of Honor”, and then I noticed a man giving out free movie tickets for advanced screenings. At first, I wasn’t really interested, but then out of nowhere he flipped over his clip board and I saw Channing’s face on the board. So my sister and I immediately said yes and that’s how it happened!

Was it a test screening? Did they ask you to give feedback about the movie afterwards?
I do believe it was a test screening, because they told the whole audience that we were the first audience in the country to watch the movie. We had to fill out the question form after the movie was over.

Did the director or any of the actors attend?
Sad to say I don’t think Channing was there! I looked for him everywhere because I know sometimes the actors do attend, but there was no sign of him or anyone else. There were a bunch of directors there, but they came in once the movie had already started, so it was hard to tell who they were.

Did they mention a target release date for the film?
They didn’t really mention a date of release. They just said that they were still in the process of finishing the film by editing it and changing a couple things depending on the response of the audience.

What did you think about Channing’s performance and about the film in general?
I think Chan did an amazing job in this film. He really committed to his role. During the fighting scenes and throughout the film you can see his determination and his desire to win. I think he did an outstanding job in his role. We haven’t seen him in a role like this until now, and I’m sure well see him in many more. He also looked very fit and well trained for the role. The film was also great. I like the story line; it was a bit original. I also like how the love story wasn’t too forced or overdone. It was just right. The atmosphere in the movie was great. Overall the movie and all of the actors were amazing!

Peter, who went to a screening the next day at the same theater, had the following to say about the film:

“I saw this tonight [May 8, 2008] at a pre-screening…When I found out it was directed by the guy who did “A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints”, I knew it probably wouldn’t be as run of the mill as usual. I was right. The movie has some of the most “electric” fight scenes in recent memory that literally put you on the edge of your seat…The interaction between the characters is authentic and there are little idiosyncratic things added in similar to “Saints”. It’s a great movie that I recommend to anyone who likes Underdog stories where the fight scenes are not run of the mill and straight forward.

The movie has some of the biggest crowd reactions that I’ve heard, spontaneous applause wise and there were at least 5 times when that happened. And on top of that, people were reacting to every movement in certain fight scenes, it was definitely a great movie going experience, audience participation wise.

There is one scene involving a famous martial artist that had the entire audience yelling and clapping - the ENTIRE audience. I’ve never seen people so enthused in a theater - maybe AS enthused, but never more. If they market this correctly, it could be a sleeper hit. Terrence Howard is great and Luis Guzman as well. Channing Tatum…There’s one scene where he loses it that is raw power by definition.

I was part of a focus group afterwards and when asked to raise their hands if they liked the movie, all 24 people raised their hands…”

CTU On the Set of ‘Fighting’

From what Bernice and Peter had to say about the film, it looks like we have yet another amazing Channing Tatum performance to look forward to when ‘Fighting‘ has its theatrical release on September 26, 2008.

If you’ve been reading CTU for a while, then you already know why I’m excited about the release of this film. It’s the only movie set I have ever visited, and I got to meet Channing for the first time when he invited me to spend an unforgettable day on the New York set with him and the cast and crew of ‘Fighting‘. I can’t wait to see if the scene I watched makes it into the film. CLICK HERE if you want to read all about my day on set with Chan.

Thanks so much to Bernice for showing CTU some love and for sharing her experience with Channing’s fans around the world. As always, stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped for the latest news on Chan’s film ‘Fighting‘ (and almost everything else Channing Tatum for that matter)! ;-)

On June 10th the M&M Cru is Ending This Battle…

May 23, 2008

In true dance battle style, Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux of the M&M Cru have posted a teaser video letting everyone know they will release their round two reply to ACDC’s last online dance battle challenge on June 10, 2008 at 7PM Pacific Time.

Parts of the video below were made at the Wango Tango music festival I mentioned recently, and they also show footage from the video shoot where I posted behind the scenes photos on Monday. The girls have taken it up a notch, because they are saying that this next video is going to be the one that will bring an end to the ENTIRE battle. I’m sure ACDC might have a little to say about that, but in the mean time, you can check out M&M’s teaser below…

I’m hoping that the video I posted with Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan donning their M&M Cru caps and dancing with fans on the streets of Prague makes it into the next installment, but I guess we’ll all have to tune in on June 10th to see for ourselves.

Haven’t seen all of the videos in the BIGGEST ONLINE DANCE BATTLE EVER? You can CLICK HERE to check them all out in a playlist I created on YouTube.

Thanks to Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Naz for letting me know about this new video!!!

NEWS FLASH: Lasse Hallstrom Chosen to Direct Channing Tatum’s ‘Dear John’

May 21, 2008

We are WAY past due on a ‘Dear John‘ update. It’s really been a while since we’ve heard any news from Channing Tatum’s upcoming romantic drama, so I was extremely excited to read in today’s Variety that they have now chosen a director for the film.

An Award-Winning Director

Lasse Hallstrom, the Oscar-nominated director of dramas like Tobey Maguire and Charlize Theron’s ‘The Cider House Rules‘, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape‘, and Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp’s Chocolat, has been chosen to direct Channing Tatum’s romantic drama ‘Dear John‘.

Historically, the Swedish Film and TV director has created movies that have garnered countless Oscars and Golden Globe awards and nominations. He has also directed the four following actors to an Oscar win and/or nomination: Michael Caine, Juliette Binoche, Leonardo Decaprio, and the incomparable Dame Judy Dench. Needless to say, ‘Dear John‘ and Channing are definitely in good hands.

Dear John‘ is one of the first high-profile films to be made since Time Warner downsized New Line Cinema and decided to fold it into the Warner Brothers studio. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are set to produce the film, and it’s currently being sold at Cannes.

The Cannes Film Festival or le Festival de Cannes is a private film festival that was founded in 1946 and is one of the world’s oldest, most influential and prestigious festivals. The 61st annual film festival is currently being held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in the resort town of Cannes in the south of France.

The film is based on an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ book Dear John and the screenplay is written by Jamie Linden. Fans may be familiar with other films that were adapted from Sparks’ other best sellers. If you were fans of ‘Message in a Bottle‘ , ‘The Notebook‘, or ‘A Walk to Remember‘, then you may understand why I’m so excited about Channing playing the main character of John Tyler in this film.

An Epic Love Story

Even though it may seem like Channing is gunning to be Hollywood’s next action hero with his roles in ‘Stop-Loss‘, ‘Fighting‘, and ‘G.I. Joe‘, many may be surprised that he’s much more interested in creating what he calls an “epic love story”. Here’s what Chan had to say about his action hero status and ‘Dear John‘ in a recent interview for AL.com:

“I don’t want that…I’ve always been good at physical things for the most part, but the next thing that I do, I want to do a love story. I want to do a beautiful, huge, epic love story…We have a beautiful script on it…Oddly enough, it’s a soldier movie, but it’s really just a love story with a soldier backdrop.”

Just when we thought we could not love him more, he goes and shows us his sensitive side again. In case you don’t know, here is a summary of what Dear John (the book) is about:

An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life–until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart.

But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. “Dear John,” the letter read…and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love—and face the hardest decision of his life.

Dear John‘ (the movie) will start filming this coming September and is set to hit a theater near you in 2009. More than any other movie Channing has coming out in the next two years, I am the most excited about this film.

What about you guys? Feel free to leave a comment on this post to let everyone know which upcoming film has you excited. You can CLICK HERE to get a complete list.

New Video of Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, and the M&M Cru on the Streets of Prague

May 20, 2008

This past Sunday, the M&M Cru continued to film their next video for round two of the ongoing online dance battle with Jon M. Chu and Adam Sevani’s ACDC.

It’s amazing how the popularity of the dance battle continues to grow. ACDC was asked by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to perform at her star-studded 50th birthday party last week, and she even showed clips of their performance on her show last Friday.

DeGeneres’ party, held on the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank where she currently tapes her show, was set up like a carnival – complete with 10-ft. elephant topiaries, a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousel, dunk tank and stilt-walkers. Party-goers included celebrities like Mariah Carey and new husband Nick Cannon, Paris Hilton and boyfriend Benji Madden, David and Courtney Cox Arquette, T.R. Knight, Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson, and Gwen Stephani and Jon Chu said they had a ton of fun!

You can see the crew before the show in the photo on the right. You can also watch some of the video footage from the party below. ACDC shows up at about 1:28 in the video…

On the M&M front…From the photos that were posted on the blog of one of Miley Cyrus’ dancers, it looks like the M&M Cru has definitely turned it up a notch for the newest installment. You can check out a couple of more pics from the highly-choreographed video shoot below:

Finally, Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Naz from London found this awesome video of Channing Tatum and girlfriend Jenna Dewan sporting their M&M Cru hats and dancing with some extremely lucky fans on the streets of Old Square in the center of Prague area where Chan’s currently filming ‘G.I. Joe‘.

It remains to be seen if this video is actually for the battle or not, but it’s cool to get a sneak peek. And it’s even cooler to see Chan and Jenna dancing together once again. Enjoy!!!

You can CLICK HERE to watch all of the dance videos that have been created by the M&M Cru and ACDC since the worldwide battle was started a few weeks ago by Jon Chu and Adam Sevani.

NEWS FLASH: Film Festival Premiere and DVD Release for Channing Tatum’s ‘Stop-Loss’

May 18, 2008

Recently I let you all know that the Australian release date for Channing Tatum’s drama ‘Stop-Loss‘ was pushed out to August 14, 2008. For those disappointed Aussies that were looking forward to the initial May release of the film, I have some great news.

Prior to the nationwide release of the film, ‘Stop-Loss‘ will have its Australian premiere at the 55th annual Sydney Film Festival which runs from June 4 - 22, 2008.

The Sydney Film Festival screens feature films, documentaries, short films and animations across the city at the State Theatre, GU George Street Cinemas, Metro Theatre and Dendy Opera Quays. The festival is a major event on the New South Wales cultural calendar and is one of the world’s longest running film festivals.

Fans can get all of the film festival screening information for ‘Stop-Loss‘ below:

‘Stop-Loss’ Update

To give everyone a quick general update on the film…

Since the release of Channing’s film ‘Stop-Loss‘, director Kimberly Peirce has been extremely busy promoting the film, winning awards, and raising awareness about the Stop-Loss policy that is impacting US soldiers serving around the world.

Variety announced that Peirce ( a 1996 gradute of Columbia University’s School of the Arts’ film division) received the Sarris Award during the Columbia University’s Film Festival.

Named for critic and film professor Andrew Sarris, the award honors service and artistic achievement of Columbia U. alums. Sarris award recipients are selected by the school’s film students. Feel free to learn more about the talented director on her official website.

Amazingly, ‘Stop-Loss‘ has helped spark a national debate in both the entertainment and news media. So much so, that all of the presidential candidates are now addressing the Stop-Loss policy on the campaign trail.

Kimberly mentions on the film’s Facebook page that Senator McCain now calls the Stop-Loss program a “back door draft”, which is a term we all learned in the film. Senator Clinton is calling for the program’s end, and Senator Obama has petitioned Defense Secretary Gates to end it also; Kim mentioned to me that Obama actually asked supporters on his website to see ‘Stop-Loss‘ in theaters after she sent him a letter educating him about the policy.

With Stop-Lossed soldiers and their families in attendance, Kimberly recently addressed the National Press Club, which spurred publications and news outlets including USA Today, Newsweek, The Washington Post, and MSNBC to prominently feature stories on the Stop-Loss issue. NBC Nightly News is also about to air an extended look at the policy featuring many of the soldiers and families from the National Press Club event.

The LA Times reports that the number of soldiers affected by the military’s Stop-Loss program has risen sharply since the Pentagon extended combat tours last year, so ‘Stop-Loss‘ is no longer just a film; it is now an integral part of a movement with the goal of ending a controversial policy that forces our soldiers to remain in the Army involuntarily.

Kimberly Peirce has also confirmed that the ‘Stop-Loss’ DVD will be released on or before July 22nd. I have seen release dates as early as July 8th, but I will let you all know when I have a more solid date.

Stop-Loss‘ is currently scheduled to premiere in Italy next on June 6, 2008, and you can CLICK HERE to get a complete list of all of the release dates for the film around the world.

Channing Tatum Pictures of the Week: Fabulous Fan Photo Submission

May 17, 2008

Each week Channing Tatum Unwrapped will post one or more of our favorite pictures of the uber hot Channing Tatum.

Today’s Picture of the Week was submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Terb and is a picture of Chan from his 2006 dance hit ‘Step Up‘.

Here’s why Terb chose this photo as Picture of the Week:

This is my favorite picture of Channing Tatum, because when I first saw ‘Step Up’, I was struck by the expression in his eyes as he was watching Nora teach ballet. I kept thinking, “Is he just a really good actor, or is that lovestruck expression for real?” now that I found out about Chenna (I’m actually a latebloomer fan since I only saw step up last week), I know it’s a combination of both. Chan is a really good actor, and he’s really in love with his girl. I love it!!!

- Terb

Thanks for submitting the great photo, Terb! Fans can CLICK HERE to view even more screen captures of Channing and his real-life girlfriend Jenna Dewan in ‘Step Up‘, and you can also CLICK HERE to check out tons of photos of our favorite couple Chenna.

If you have a favorite picture from this blog, our photo gallery, a picture you have made or a picture that you have found on the net that you would like me to consider, send the picture or a link to the picture to potw@channingtatumunwrapped.com and tell me why you like it. I will post it and your explanation on the blog. If you like or don’t like today’s picture (for some completely insane reason), let everyone know that too by clicking on the comments link below. :-)
