Channing Tatum’s Bumpy Road to Stardom

From leaving college in West Virginia early to sweating bullets as a sunburned construction worker in Florida to succeeding as Tinseltown’s most desired up-and-comer, Channing Tatum’s shot to stardom has beat the odds and surpassed even his own expectations.

Looking fly in his Armani gear, Channing’s IFilm.com inspirational interview below was done during the huge Step Up press tour.

I like to watch his interviews, because he often gives us insight into who he was when he was younger and into who he is as a person now. Here are some of the gems we get in this interview:

• Channing has an aversion to computers. More specifically, he feels that computers have an aversion to him. He says he thinks little gremlins come around whenever he tries to use any computer you put in front of him.

• The interviewer asks Channing what was the worst trouble he got in growing up as a teenager in Florida. Channing reluctantly explains, to the dismay of his publicist, that he and his friends used to pass the time with typical “country-bumpkin nonsense” by doing minor damage to housing developments. Unlike his character Tyler Gage in Step Up, they lucked out and never got into trouble with the law, because they would hide out in the surrounding woods if the police ever came around.

• Although he had a variety of jobs prior to getting his break into modeling, Channing’s hardest job by far was framing houses in the construction industry in Florida where at some point he lived with his sister. He explains a typical day of getting up at 6:30AM to get to work by 7AM, having lunch at 11 or 12 and working until 4 or 5 in a tank top and shorts in the hot Florida sun while you pray for a rainy day to help beat the heat.

• In acting, Channing feels that some days are relatively easy and some days are are insanely hard. For example, they shot the finale of Step Up in 4 days and the cast was extremely exhausted, bruised, and battered by the end of the rigorous routine.

• Channing’s love of dancing extends far beyond the Step Up set. Unlike his competitive raver club-kid days when he was a teenager where you would find him battling on any and every dance floor he touched, he now loves to just dance for fun.

• Channing also feels that over the years luck really played a role in the amazing opportunities that came his way, because he had so many people and friends come into his life at the right time and truly believe in him.

• Channing says that anyone who has dreams should always make an attempt to reach them. His mother, who he is very close to, always told him that success comes when preparation meets opportunity. In short, you have to be ready to walk through that proverbial door when it opens for you.

Channing Tatum is about as far away as you can get from his hammer and nail days in the hot Florida sun. What impresses me the most about him is that he has been able to succeed in Hollywood without losing his humility. He instead has the inate ability to appreciate where he came from and the maturity to know where he wants to go and how to get there.

Channing Tatum started exercising martial arts at the age of six. He loved the sport so much that he achieved belted status in Kung Fu and Gor-Chor Kung Fu, and has years of experience practicing the ancient art of Wah-lum and Capoeira, the Brazilian dance/martial artform. If this one’s not a great wallpaper for your computer, I don’t know what is.

NEWS FLASH: UK AGTRYS Movie Release Cinemas, Events, and Competitions

Here is another picture of Channing Tatum at last year’s Sundance film festival for AGTRYS. I really love his sense of style. As you probably already know, Channing Tatum’s movie will be released nationwide in the United Kingdom on March 2, 2007.

Here are the London, Regional, and Ireland cinemas that will be showing the film, as far as I know right now:

AGTRYS is also promising there will be lots of events to coincide with the release, including, special screenings, parties, and a premiere in the UK.

The movie is based on the memoir, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, which was written by AGTRYS’s director Dito Montiel. To coincide with the release of the film, AGTRYS is going to give away 5 signed copies of the book. They did not specify who is going to sign the book, but I am hoping it is the cast.

To enter you can send an email with your name and address, with SAINTS BOOK in the subject field, to info@revolvergroup.com and saints@revolvergroup.com to get a chance to win. The competition closes at the end of April 2007. Because they did not specify, I assume that you do not have to live in the UK and that anyone is eligible to enter.

Yet Another Channing Tatum Improvised Scene Showing He’s the Man

DID YOU KNOW?…So it looks like Channing not only can improvise dramatic scenes, but the talented actor has also improvised comedic scenes in his successful 2006 movie She’s the Man. In the IFilm.com interview below with stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes, she talks about how the director gave them the freedom to explore there own ideas about their characters.

Amanda also mentions how she became impressed with Channing’s acting skills when he showed his improvisational chops in the HILARIOUS gym scene with Amanda’s character Sebastian and Channing’s character Duke’s love interest Olivia, played by Laura Ramsey.

You may remember the part where Channing switches into “suave mode” by smoothly hitting his head on the exercise machine when he starts talking to Olivia and coolly flipping open the cell phone to take a call. Again it seems that neither of these were planned, but made it into the final cut of the movie.

I definitely get Channings sense of humor. I have to admit that the gym scene was one that I actually had to replay, because I thought it was so funny.

It is obvious that Channing has amazing instincts and let’s hope those instincts give him the staying power he needs to continue his success in Tinsletown for many years to come.

RUMOR OR REEL?: Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Breakup Debunked

If you’ve been reading the blog over the past few weeks, you may be familiar with my previous Rumor or Reel entry on the rumors around Channing and Jenna’s possible breakup. I definitely did not start the false rumor, but I hope that I may have had something to do with helping to bring it to an end.

In the previous entry, I mentioned that there was a site called WhosDatedWho.com that said Jenna and Channing stopped dating at the end of 2006 and that Channing started dating some person named Megan Dewall right after. I also mentioned that mysteriously I couldn’t find ANY information on this Megan person on the internet and Who’s Dated Who did not have a photo.

Happily now I think I know why I couldn’t find anything on Ms.Dewall. I learned that Who’s Dated Who is actually updated by fans submitting information to the company. They then try to “verify” the information that is submitted. I don’t know what that verification process is, but it seems to me that this Megan person may have duped Who’s Dated Who.

Maybe its from all those years of watching Matlock, Murder She Wrote, or Veronica Mars or it’s just my natural nosiness, but I have always been a pretty good detective. Instead of the mystery starting with the death of a person, it started with the rumored death of Channing and Jenna’s relationship.

So how did Channing Tatum Unwrapped help debunk the rumor you may ask? Well, once I figured out what may be going on, I submitted an update to the site letting them know I felt the information was inaccurate. To substantiate this, I sent them a link to my article showing them pictures of Channing and Jenna in 2007. They not only added my comment to the site, but they also removed Megan Dewall from Channing’s dating history. The picture above shows the updated page with only Jenna Dewan and Amanda Bynes.

As I have always said, take what you read on the internet (including this blog) with a grain of salt. To think that this whole false breakup report may have started with a person who thought it would be funny to submit there own name to the site. It just shows you how crazy the internet and celebrity can be. With rumors like this working against you, I don’t think we have to wonder why it’s so hard to stay in a relationship in Hollywood.

So based on the my theory, maybe you too can date a star if you can get past Who’s Dated Who’s screeners. I am not advocating that you do what I think Megan did, because I really hate that this particular false update contributed to a completely untrue breakup of a really great couple.

P.S. Now you may be saying to yourself “Why does Who’s Dated Who have Amanda Bynes listed on Channing’s profile when we all know they did not date?” (see this CTU article that debunks the Amanda Bynes dating rumor too). Well I figured I would fight one battle at a time. I will now work on getting that false rumor fixed to. Don’t worry your pretty little head. CTU’s on the case.
